Summary

We are seeking a caring, reliable, and engaging Childcare Worker to work on an on call basis providing quality child-minding services for children whose parents or caregivers are attending onsite Family Support Services programs. In this role, you will help create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment where children can learn, play, and feel supported while their caregivers participate in programming with peace of mind.

The Childcare Worker is responsible for supervising children, facilitating developmentally appropriate activities, preparing and maintaining the child-minding space, and supporting program administration including registration, intake, and sign-in/sign-out procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Provide attentive, developmentally appropriate care for children during onsite programs and events.
Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment that supports children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being.
Plan and facilitate engaging activities including play-based learning, arts and crafts, storytelling, and other age-appropriate experiences.
Attend to children’s physical needs, including snack support while following allergy and food safety guidelines (excluding diapering and feeding).
Communicate effectively with parents and caregivers regarding routines, expectations, and children’s well-being during sessions.
Collaborate with the Pre and Postnatal Team, Group Facilitators, Lead Child Care Worker, and Childminding teams to coordinate schedules, room setups, and participant needs.
Support families experiencing separation anxiety and provide appropriate resources or referrals when needed.
Prepare, set up, and clean up child-minding spaces before and after sessions.
Ensure toys, equipment, and materials are clean, safe, and appropriate for various age groups.
Maintain a tidy, organized, and hazard-free environment in accordance with health and safety standards.
Assist with participant registration and sign-in/sign-out procedures.
Complete required program documentation and data entry.
Follow organizational policies related to confidentiality, child safeguarding, and emergency procedures.
Report incidents, concerns, or safety issues promptly to the program manager or supervisor.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Certifications

Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
Valid Food Safe Level 1 Certification

Experience & Skills

Experience working with young children in childcare, group care, or early learning settings.
Knowledge of child development and play-based learning practices.
Ability to support children and families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds with warmth, respect, and professionalism.
Calm and confident approach when responding to emergencies or challenging situations.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.

Working Conditions

May involve light lifting, floor-based play, and moving equipment.
Hours may vary depending on program schedules.
A criminal record check and/or vulnerable sector check is required.

Reports to: Manager of Family Support Services

Job Title: Casual On-CallChild Care Worker

Work Site Location(s): BFL Locations including McKercher, Pioneer, Edmonds, Olivet Church and Burnaby Community Schools

Weekly Hours: Casual On-Call, based on program needs

Wage: $20.30

Benefits: Not eligible for group benefits

Start Date: As soon as possible

# of Openings: TWO

Pay: $20.30 per hour

Experience:

child care: 1 year (preferred)
