RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Human Resources Director, The HR Business Partner acts as first point of contact for managers/employees on all HR matters. Work with HR Team to provide full-service HR offerings to clients across Canada, including effectively providing service in recruitment, compensation, benefits and pension administration, labour relations and contract administration, training and development, policy and procedure administration, audits and investigations, Leave management, workers’ compensation, complex return to work planning, safety, payroll and benefits support, and compliance with Canadian federal employment regulations.
- Recruitment: Managing and assisting in the recruitment of candidates, including the creation of job postings, screening resumes, interviewing, pre-employment reference checks, background and medical checks, and preparation of offer letters and onboarding.
- Work with leaders on developing business cases for recruitment activity.
- Update job descriptions and create job advertisement material.
- Manage the recruitment process on Dayforce.
- Educate hiring teams on the organization’s practices and goals including our Diversity and Inclusion strategy.
- Provide support to hiring teams by screening candidates and assisting in interviews if need be.
- Conduct pre-employment reference checks, backgrounds checks and medical checks.
- Prepare offer letters and conduct onboarding.
- Performance Management: Assist leaders with annual performance management process including KPI setting, year-end remuneration process and performance assessments, development planning, and succession planning and merit recommendations.
- Help manage the performance review process by providing training on goal setting and system use.
- Provide support to managers on performance management.
- Run reports and track progress at different times throughout the performance year.
- Reporting/Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal employment laws, including the Canada Labour Code, Pay Equity Act, and Accessible Canada Act.
- Manage monthly reporting requirements including HR metrics, headcount, and invoices.
- Provide guidance and interpretation of HR policies and procedures.
PAYROLL/BENEFITS/PENSION:
- Assist the Payroll and Benefits Administrator with the year-end process as needed as well as payroll audits.
- Prepare reports for pension adjustments.
- Request for pension estimates and send pension authorization documents
- Ensure funding is available for monthly pensioner payments
- Manage disability cases by ensuring files are up to date, proper documentation is received and working with managers on return-to-work plans.
- Aid EHS team with WCB claims and investigations
LABOUR RELATIONS:
- Responsible for managing grievance files, preparing for grievance/arbitration meetings and communication with the Unions.
- Ensure consistent interpretation and administration of collective agreements, in accordance with federal labour laws.
- Support HR Director with collective bargaining and Union relations.
- Assist with filing system ensuring up to date records, signed documentation and personnel files.
- Assist with grievances, arbitrations, and collective bargaining.
- Assist with workplace investigations.
LEARNING & DEVELOPMENT:
- Help plan and organize learning and development opportunities and initiatives.
- Support with facilitations where required
ADMINISTRATION:
- Provide guidance and interpretation of all policies and practices.
- Provide high quality, timely and professional customer service to customers.
- Assist with immigration of new hires and current employees
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Excellent organization skills with a strong attention to detail.

- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external clients.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Experience with labour relations and unionized work environments is considered an asset.
- Experience in coaching and influencing leaders on a variety of people issues.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Exposure to payroll processing and associated activities in an asset (experience with Dayforce or similar payroll systems).
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of Federal and Provincial labour legislation.
- Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential information in a professional manner.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Min 5 years of related experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. CHRP or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Skilled in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams).
- Experience with labour relations and unionized work environments.
- Experience with Dayforce, Workday (Adaptive Insights) is an asset.
- Experience in coaching and influencing leaders on a variety of people issues.
- French language skills considered an asset.WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This role will follow the Hybrid model which includes working remotely and in the office on a set schedule.
- Standard working hours with the ability to be flexible given time zone differences.
