About Exchanger Industries Limited
Exchanger Industries Limited (EIL) is Canada’s leading provider of custom heat transfer solutions. From our Alberta operations, we design and manufacture innovative, high-quality Shell & Tube and Air Cooler equipment for energy and industrial customers across Canada and around the world. We’re a close-knit team that takes engineering excellence seriously, treats customer success as the goal, and would rather get the details right the first time than fix them later.
About this role
Most drafting roles ask you to use the tools. This one asks you to help build them.
We’re looking for a Junior CAD Systems Developer to help rebuild the foundation our engineering and drafting teams rely on every day — the component libraries, templates, and drawing standards behind every piece of equipment we make. You’ll start by recreating EIL’s semi-standard parts in SolidWorks, taking legacy models out of our Autodesk Inventor and Vault environment and rebuilding them as clean, standardized, reusable components. It’s precise, structured work, and it matters: every part you standardize removes duplicate modelling effort, cuts drafting rework, and prevents the kind of small errors that ripple downstream into manufacturing and supply chain.
This is a rare junior position where early tasks are concrete and learnable, but the trajectory points somewhere bigger. As you grow into the role, your work will expand beyond library development into template design, workflow improvement, and eventually design automation — helping shape how our engineering team works, not just what it produces. If you’re early in your career and want to grow into genuine systems-development expertise rather than draft the same parts twice, this is built for you.
You’ll report to the Director, Engineering & Innovation and work alongside a drafting and engineering team that documents what it learns, shares what works, and would rather fix a process once than work around it a hundred times.
What you’ll do
▸ Recreate semi-standard parts in SolidWorks from existing Inventor and Vault files, building a clean, standardized parts and drawing library
▸ Convert legacy Inventor drawings into SolidWorks formats that meet EIL’s current drafting standards
▸ Develop new SolidWorks file templates and refine existing ones for consistency, usability, and compliance
▸ Ensure every model and drawing is accurate, complete, and consistent — and help reduce the drafting errors that affect manufacturing and supply chain
▸ Keep your work compatible with EIL’s document control processes and Vault structure
▸ Support designers in finding and using standardized components, and contribute to shared documentation and best practices
▸ Spot opportunities to improve workflows, processes, and system integration as you learn the environment
What you bring
▸ A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or an Engineering Technology diploma
▸ Working knowledge of SolidWorks (preferred) and Autodesk Inventor
▸ A solid grounding in 3D modeling, drafting standards, and engineering drawings
▸ Sharp attention to detail and real satisfaction in getting things accurate and consistent
▸ The discipline to follow established standards — and the curiosity to question and improve them
▸ Strong organization and time-management skills, and a willingness to learn and adapt within a developing role
Nice to have
▸ Familiarity with CAD data management systems such as Autodesk Vault
▸ Two or more years in a manufacturing or engineering environment
Work environment
This is a primarily office-based role with extended computer use, based out of our Alberta operations, with occasional time spent in the shop or production environment. Travel is minimal to none.
What we value — RISE
Our values shape how we work together every day: Respect and Safety First, Integrity in Action, Seek Growth, and Excel as a Team. We hire people who are curious, speak up, and want to make the work around them better.
How to apply
If this sounds like the kind of work you want to grow into, we’d like to hear from you. Apply through Indeed with your resume — a short note on a CAD or standardization project you’re proud of is always welcome, but not required.
