Senior Litigation Legal Assistant / Paralegal
Location: Vancouver, BC
Salary: $65,000 – $78,000
Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Our client, a well-established and respected Vancouver law firm, is seeking an experienced Litigation Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join its busy litigation team. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly organized and proactive legal professional who enjoys a blend of administrative, substantive litigation support, and billing responsibilities.

Working closely with senior litigators, the successful candidate will support a diverse litigation practice that includes insurance, construction, and general commercial litigation matters. This role offers significant file involvement, opportunities to work independently, and exposure to all stages of the litigation process.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare, draft, and revise legal correspondence and litigation documents.
Schedule discoveries, mediations, court appearances, hearings, and trial-related events.
Manage lawyers' calendars, deadlines, limitation dates, and bring-forward systems.
Coordinate and attend to court filings and related procedural requirements.
Organize and maintain electronic and physical client files, binders, and litigation materials.
Communicate professionally with clients, experts, opposing counsel, courts, and other stakeholders.
Draft pleadings, application records, books of authorities, settlement documents, and related litigation materials.
Assist with document review, privilege review, document production, and redactions.
Coordinate experts and independent examinations, including preparation of instruction materials.
Prepare mediation and trial materials, including briefs, exhibits, affidavits, and supporting documentation.
Provide trial support and assist with witness coordination and document management.
Calculate costs, interest, and assist with litigation cost recovery processes.
Provide vacation and overflow coverage for other members of the litigation team.

Billing & Financial Responsibilities

Prepare and revise prebills and client accounts.
Assist lawyers with billing processes and account production.
Manage electronic billing submissions through various client platforms.
Monitor billing rejections and coordinate required revisions.
Process disbursements and billing-related administrative tasks.
Support accounts receivable follow-up and payment inquiries.
Maintain accurate time entry and billing records in accordance with client guidelines.

Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of litigation experience in a law firm environment.
Experience supporting insurance defence, construction, or commercial litigation practices is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of BC Supreme Court procedures and litigation processes.
Experience preparing court documents, trial materials, and litigation records.
Knowledge of billing practices, time entry, and e-billing platforms.
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and follow-up.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Professional communication and client service skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and legal document management systems.
Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team environment.
