Overview:

The Ward Clerk plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of a hospital unit by providing administrative and clerical assistance. Responsibilities include managing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges; maintaining accurate patient records; coordinating communication between physicians, nurses, and departments; answering phones; and ensuring timely processing of orders and documentation.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Strong communication skills, proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and medical terminology, and a commitment to patient confidentiality are essential.

Qualifications:

Medical Secretarial Diploma or Equivalent
Medical Terminology
Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent
Computer literacy and keyboarding skills
Documented public relations skills with ability to problem solve effectively

Required Skills:

Recent Ward Clerk experience in an acute care environment, preferred• Ability to effectively manage competing priorities; multitask in a fast-paced environment
Exceptional attention to detail with ability to maintain accurate records and documentation
Proven interpersonal skills, conflict resolution, decision-making skills, and excellent communication skills required
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team to provide optimal patient care
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Self-directed to work independently with minimal supervision
Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at AMGH through patient safety knowledge, skills and attitudes
Demonstrated excellence in attendance required
Ability to work weekends and rotating shifts
