National Shunt Service Ltd. is a family owned and operated transportation Company that operates across North America. We specialize in yard management (shunting). With over 20 years of experience providing innovative yard management services (operations and technology), NSSL executes a TOTAL YARD MANAGEMENT PROGRAM for any type of warehouse, manufacturer or cross-dock operation in North America. We call it shunting but you may know it as: spotting, jockeying, yarding or switching. We manage in excess of 150,000 shipment movements per month for some of the leading name brand manufacturers and major retailers in North America.

This role puts you at the centre of Canadian finance operations, from month-end close to strategic cost management.

Key responsibilities include; leading a talented team, shaping financial strategy, and driving process improvements that power business growth. Your leadership will streamline operations, deliver insights, and make a real impact—this is your opportunity to solve challenges and help shape the future of finance at NSSL.

Detailed responsibilities and ownership:

· Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

o Lead full month-end close for Canadian entities: journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and intercompany transactions.

o Prepare monthly financial statements and margin variance reports for Controller review.

o Recommend solutions for margin improvement and cost control.

· Team Management

o Oversee, train, and review direct reports daily.

o Act as escalation point before Controller involvement.

o Hold regular meetings to support team growth & development.

· Accounts Payable & Cash Oversight

o Review and own weekly AP payment runs.

o Maintain strong controls and catch any errors before payments.

· Payroll & Benefits Oversight

o Ensure accurate, on-time payroll and government remittances.

o Maintain Dayforce system as needed.

o Own and review payroll cost allocation in ERP.

· Accounts Receivable Oversight

o Resolve AR issues: payment discrepancies, delinquencies, customer inquiries, and revenue allocation.

o Monitor upcoming customer rate changes and ensure they are communicated to team.

· Reconciliations & Internal Controls

o Reconcile income statement and balance sheet accounts weekly.

o Support year end audits and monthly bank covenant reporting

· Ad-Hoc Analysis & Support

o Solve business problems proactively.

o Improve processes and controls as business scales.

Experience & Qualification Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA or equivalent professional designation preferred
3+ years of progressive accounting experience
Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
Advanced Excel and ERP system skills
