THE CHALLENGE
The Heavy Equipment Technician is responsible for performing advanced diagnostics, repairs, overhauls, and maintenance on natural gas and diesel reciprocating engines, generator packages, and related mechanical systems. This role ensures all equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably through expert troubleshooting, timely service, and adherence to company safety standards

WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Diagnostics & Troubleshooting: Perform thorough diagnostics on engines, generators, compressors, control panels, and ancillary equipment (pumps, valves, coolers, etc.) to identify mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues.
- Advanced Repairs & Overhauls: Carry out complex repairs, overhauls, and component replacements on natural gas and diesel reciprocating engines to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Preventive Maintenance: Execute routine maintenance on generator packages and fleet equipment including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and system inspections to prevent breakdowns.
- Field Service Support: Conduct inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting on client sites and TX‑RENTS fleet equipment, providing professional, timely service.
- Pre‑Commissioning & Start‑Up: Support pre‑commissioning, commissioning, and start‑up of new packaged equipment and rental units.
- Technical Problem Solving: Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving hardware, software, instrumentation, and network connectivity on equipment control systems.
- Use of Specialized Tools: Operate diagnostic tools such as gas analyzers, laser aligners, micrometers, electronic pressure gauges, and other precision instruments to assess and repair equipment.
- Documentation & Reporting: Complete accurate and timely field service reports, inspection forms, maintenance logs, and expense reports.
- Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with service technicians, engineers, project managers, and leadership to coordinate maintenance activities and ensure seamless workflow.
- Mentorship: Lead and mentor service technicians during overhauls and technical procedures as required.
- Other Duties: Perform additional responsibilities as required to support department operations.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Experience: Several years of hands-on experience working with heavy-duty mechanical systems, engines, generators, or industrial equipment. Experience in field service, oil gas, power generation, or industrial maintenance is a strong asset.
- Education: High school diploma or GED is required. Completion of a Heavy Equipment Technician apprenticeship or equivalent technical training is an asset.
- Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical details clearly.
- Certification: Valid Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician certification. Valid Class 5 driver's license with clean abstract.
- Mindset: Strong attention to detail, a positive attitude, and alignment with our mission to provide vendor-neutral energy solutions.
PHYSICAL & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
- Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to X-Group safety policies and SOPs.
- PPE: Ability to wear required gear (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, and navigate an active industrial shop floor.
