Full job description

The Supervisor of Public Works is responsible for the planning, coordination, supervision, and delivery of municipal public works services for the Town of Lynn Lake. The position oversees daily operations, infrastructure maintenance, staff supervision, equipment management, public works projects, and operational safety while ensuring efficient and reliable municipal service delivery.

Operations & Infrastructure

Supervise daily Public Works operations
Coordinate maintenance of roads, drainage systems, water and sewer distribution infrastructure
Oversee snow clearing, sanding, grading, and seasonal maintenance activities
Support municipal facilities maintenance
Respond to operational emergencies and service interruptions

Staff Supervision

Schedule, direct, and supervise Public Works employees
Monitor productivity and work quality
Provide coaching, training, and performance feedback
Promote teamwork and professional conduct
Assist with recruitment and orientation of staff

Fleet & Equipment Management

Coordinate maintenance and repair of municipal vehicles and equipment
Monitor equipment utilization and replacement needs
Maintain equipment records and inspections
Oversee inventory of tools, parts, and supplies

Health & Safety

Promote safe work practices and compliance with Workplace Safety and Health requirements
Conduct safety meetings and inspections
Investigate incidents and recommend corrective actions
Maintain required safety documentation and records

Capital Projects & Asset Management

Assist with planning and implementation of municipal infrastructure projects
Coordinate contractors and consultants as required
Monitor infrastructure conditions and maintenance priorities
Support long-term asset management initiatives

Administration & Reporting

Prepare operational reports and updates for the CAO
Assist with budget preparation and expenditure monitoring
Maintain work orders, maintenance records, and project documentation
Support procurement and purchasing activities

Certificate, Diploma, Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience in Public Works, Civil Construction, Heavy Equipment Operations, Utility Operations, Trades, or a related field.

Minimum five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in municipal, industrial, construction, utility, or public works operations. Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Experience working in northern or remote communities is considered an asset.

Knowledge of municipal infrastructure and public works operations
Knowledge of water, sewer, roads, drainage, and solid waste systems
Leadership and staff supervision skills
Equipment and fleet management experience
Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Organizational and time-management skills
Ability to work independently and prioritize competing demands
Basic computer proficiency and record-keeping skills
Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence
First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain
Workplace Safety and Health training
Class 3 Driver's Licence considered an asset
Equipment operation certifications considered an asset

Working Conditions

Combination of office and field-based work. Regular exposure to outdoor environments, equipment, machinery, and varying weather conditions. Participation in emergency response activities, after-hours call-outs, and seasonal operational requirements may be required.

The Supervisor of Public Works provides operational leadership for municipal infrastructure and public works services. The position strengthens service delivery, supports employee development, improves accountability, enhances workplace safety, and allows the CAO to focus on governance, strategic planning, economic development, major projects, and organizational leadership.

Pay: $70,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
