Overview

Responsibilities

● Working with the Fundraising and Events Manager, the Events Worker is expected to attend and support events and activities as a team member, as well as support the departments in administrative, logistical and clerical tasks.

● They will be responsible for supporting event planning, organization and promotion which includes social media posts, poster creation, service and event promotion and interaction with community partners, clients and the general public.

● The weekly responsibilities of this position will include assisting the Niagara Folk Arts Festival in the planning, coordination, facilitation and hosting of Niagara Folk Arts Festival events and marketing.

● Responsibilities will include: assisting in planning events and activities, communicating with staff, clients and the general public at promotion events, facilitating activities and programs and setting up and tearing down event spaces.

● They will be responsible for communicating internally within the organization and with stakeholders, clients, and community partners to provide information regarding programs and events.

● Promote the agency’s mission and vision to the community, employers, business groups and other individuals and organizations in order to market the services and programs to those in positions to help the agency in achieving our strategic outcomes. This will include posting and handing out flyers, posters, signage, attending marketing opportunities at various fairs and farmers’ markets and other places identified by them.

● Working collaboratively within the Niagara Folk Arts Festival Team to support initiatives.

● Support and co-ordinate artists recruitment and facilitation at presentations.

● Creating posters, flyers, brochures etc. to market programming via social media and other methods.

● Performing administrative duties and data entry as assigned by the Fundraising and Events Manager.

● Preparing reports and data sets for the Fundraising and Events Manager.

● Participate in meetings and activities that promote understanding of newcomers.

● Understand and uphold Bridges Niagara missions and values.

● Any other duties as directed by the Fundraising and Events Manager

Qualifications

● Educational focus/interest related to Events Co-ordination, public relations and administration will be given priority.

● Knowledge and understanding of needs and barriers faced by newcomers to Canada.

● Respect and value the diversity and unique needs of communities and individuals.

● Strong sense of ethics and the ability to handle sensitive or private information with tact and discretion.

● Strong abilities to speak to the general public, volunteers and support agency led events and activities.

● Experience in special events; volunteer, educational or practical experience an asset

● Demonstrable computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Zoom.

● Ability to accurately collect, manage and report data; ability to create documents and spreadsheets.

● Strong interpersonal, time management, problem-solving and creativity skills.

● Some experience working as part of a team, while independently working remotely and attend meetings and activities off-site.

● Effective verbal and written communication skills ().

● Ability to respond quickly to urgent situations and evolving priorities.

● Excellent telephone manner and familiarity with professional office systems and procedures.

● As some activities are not along established public transportation routes and may occur outside of regular business hours, a Class G driver’s license and consistent reliable access to a vehicle is required.

4. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

5. Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations (international students on a work/study permit are not eligible for the Summer Employment Opportunity Program).

6. Provide the first three digits of your Social Insurance Number to confirm that you meet these requirements.

Pay: $21.40 per hour
