Full job description

Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a part-time Door Person to join our growing team at JAG Hotel in St. John’s, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and excellent customer service skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

Open the hotel door, and greet guests warmly upon arrival and departure, creating a positive first impression
Help guests with their luggage, including loading and unloading bags from vehicles and providing secure storage when needed
Respond promptly to guest inquiries and requests, addressing complaints or issues as they arise
Coordinate with housekeeping, concierge, and front desk staff regarding guest requests and report unusual occurrences to management
Familiarize themselves with hotel emergency protocols and assist in evacuating guests, if necessary
Ensure the entrance and lobby area are clean, organized, and welcoming
Demonstrate a professional and positive presentation to guests and colleagues, and be well groomed
Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

A minimum of 1-year relevant experience in a similar role would be considered an asset
Customer service experience is preferred
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Familiarity with safety and security procedures
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
Strong customer service skills and the ability to work well with guests and the public
Ability to handle difficult situations with patience and professionalism
Capacity to stand for extended periods of time and ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
