Reporting to the Director, International (DI), the International Student Administrative Coordinator (ISAC) is the functional supervisor for international student services at the University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC). The ISAC acts as the International Centre’s subject matter expert on international student services, coordinates and supports the work of international team members, and leads on escalated international student concerns.
The ISAC liaises with the university community and provides guidance on processes related to visiting international students, researchers, faculty, exchange and short-term students, including support on business processes and institutional responsibilities. The ISAC coordinates projects within the International Centre that relate to international student experience, ensuring collaborative efforts are made to support students from recruitment through to degree completion.
The ISAC is responsible for administering the International Exchange Program including, overseeing inbound and outbound applications and coordinating supports and services for students from admission to departure.
Responsibilities
Working collaboratively with the International team, Office of the Registrar, academic units, and external partners, the ISAC will be responsible for:
Leadership and Coordination
- Providing day-to-day functional supervision for international staff. Monitoring team workload, setting priorities, assigning tasks, and ensuring deadlines are met;
- Serving as lead contact for escalated international student concerns, triaging matters, coordinating responses, and ensuring timely resolution;
- Collaborating with the DI on department planning, scheduling, training, and coverage to meet cyclical demands;
- Monitoring and recommending business practice enhancements to support operational efficiency and productivity in international service delivery to meet university and departmental needs;
- Coordinating International Centre projects that enhance the international student experience; and
- Overseeing communication plans, website content, manuals, forms, and templates, to ensure consistency and alignment with other Enrolment Services teams.
International Exchange Program Administration
- Coordinating and supporting the inbound and outbound exchange process, ensuring applications are received, providing registration guidance, ensuring transcripts are received, and transfer credits are applied;
- Leading promotional campaigns and events to increase UNBC student participation in exchange; ensuring comprehensive onboarding for inbound and outbound participants
- Monitoring reciprocity across agreements and supporting the administration of exchange related awards and funding; and
- Supporting the International Partnership Lead in evaluating and reporting on exchange agreements.
Compliance, Reporting & Institutional Accountability
- Providing administrative oversight into government and sector reporting, including:
- BC Education Quality Assurance (EQA) annual reporting;
- Designated Learning Institution (DLI) biannual reporting;
- Letter of Admission and Confirmation of Enrolment reporting; and
- Providing guidance and peer support to other Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultants (RCIC)/ Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) trained staff to ensure immigration advice provided to students is accurate and compliant with applicable regulations and institutional policies.
Qualifications
An undergraduate degree is required. Certification as a (RISIA) or (RCIC) is required. Candidates who do not currently hold RISIA or RCIC certification are expected to complete the International Students and Immigration Education Program (ISIEP) and successfully pass the RISIA entry-to-practice exam.
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of five years of progressive experience working within international student services, exchange program administration, or similar post-secondary environments, along with demonstrated experience supervising or functionally leading staff and delivering services in fast paced settings.
Demonstrated cultural awareness is essential. Lived experience as an international student, or experience working or studying abroad is considered an asset and contributes to an informed and empathetic understanding of international student needs.
An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered, relevant experience will demonstrate:
A strong understanding of the Microsoft suite and UNBC applications are required (including, but not limited to: Banner, Student Online Services, Drupal, ARGOS, FAST). They must be able to synthesize student information, policies, procedures, regulations, and admission requirements.
Exceptional oral, written, and listening communication skills, strong judgment, interpersonal effectiveness, and cross-cultural sensitivity. They must possess planning, organization, and time management abilities, and be able to prioritize within environments that involve multiple deadlines.
A substantive background in equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), which may include relevant work experience, formal training, or education, and an ability to apply inclusive and culturally responsive practices in supporting international students.
Experience in an Office of the Registrar or similar office in a role that has a significant component of work providing services to international students.
As a team leader, the coordinator must be able to foster positive working relationships, build cohesion, and act as a steady first point of support for the unit. Strong conflict management and de-escalation skills are essential, along with the ability to navigate complex or sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy.
They will require thorough knowledge of confidentiality, records management practices and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA).
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teamwork, the ability to anticipate issues, respond to crises appropriately, and escalate when necessary.
Salary
This position has been classified at Grade 12. The annual salary range for this position is $81,590.60 to $84,957.60 and the normal starting salary will be $81,590.60.

Normal hours of work will be 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.
