Waltons Woodworking is a company specializing in custom high-end commercial custom millwork in the Langley area since 1986. We are dedicated to making our clients’ visions a reality by producing exceptional, functional, and high-quality custom millwork.
We are currently seeking a Job Estimator to join our team. This role is critical to the success of our projects, as the Estimator is responsible for producing accurate, detailed, and competitive estimates for custom millwork jobs. You will work closely with Project Managers, production staff, vendors, and purchasing to ensure pricing, scope, and material requirements are clearly defined prior to production and maintained throughout the project lifecycle.
List of Responsibilities
1. ESTIMATING & TAKEOFFS
Ensure accurate and complete job pricing.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand full project scope
- Complete detailed material and labour takeoffs for custom millwork and cabinetry projects
- Identify all required job components, finishes, hardware, and special detailing
- Utilize Bluebeam and drawings to quantify materials accurately
2. COSTING, JOB TRACKING & PRICING
Develop accurate estimates and track job financial performance.
- Prepare detailed estimates using Excel and internal costing systems
- Apply labour rates, material pricing, and overhead accurately
- Request, review, and compare pricing from vendors and suppliers
- Track and calculate job costs throughout the project, including actual vs. estimated costs
- Prepare and calculate additions, credits, and pricing adjustments as required
- Identify cost impacts resulting from scope changes and communicate clearly with Project Managers
3. DOCUMENTATION & HANDOFF
Work closely with Project Managers to ensure a seamless transition from estimate to production.
- Collaborate directly with Project Managers to maintain organized and accurate estimating and job cost files
- Review and align on scope, inclusions, exclusions, assumptions, and notes to ensure a clear and shared understanding of each project
- Partner with Project Managers on estimate revisions, value engineering, and pricing changes as projects evolve
- Provide ongoing cost clarification, backup documentation, and financial support throughout project execution
4. COLLABORATION
Work cross-functionally to support successful project delivery.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, production staff, and purchasing to ensure estimates align with shop capabilities
- Communicate clearly with internal teams regarding pricing, scope, and cost impacts
- Support continuous improvement of estimating, costing, and tracking processes
Relevant Experience
- Experience in architectural millwork, cabinetry, or custom woodworking
- Strong knowledge of millwork construction methods, materials, and detailing
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Access, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with takeoff software such as Bluebeam
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and shop drawings
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and numerical accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple estimates and active job cost tracking simultaneously
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with production staff and management
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $28.00-$40.00 per hour
