Job Summary
The Industrial Electrician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electrical systems and components on production equipment across multiple facilities within a shared campus. This role ensures equipment reliability and operational efficiency by responding to breakdowns, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting ongoing electrical projects in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The position works closely with maintenance and production teams to minimize downtime and ensure all equipment operates safely and in accordance with regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Always work safely and immediately address any safety hazards or concerns.
- Follow all lockout/tagout procedures and adhere to company Health, Safety, Environmental, and PPE requirements.
- Respond in a timely and organized manner to electrical equipment issues affecting production.
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical systems, components, and production equipment.
- Install, maintain, and modify electrical components on a variety of industrial equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities according to established schedules and programs.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance records, work orders, and documentation.
- Ensure work areas, tools, and shop equipment are kept clean, organized, and in good working condition.
- Communicate part requirements and inventory needs to the Stockroom team.
- Collaborate with production supervisors to ensure equipment is ready for production requirements.
- Coordinate and support electrical contractors and site-wide electrical projects as needed.
- Provide input and recommendations to improve maintenance processes and preventative maintenance programs.
- Mentor, train, and support apprentices and junior maintenance technicians.
- Ensure all work complies with company policies, as well as provincial and federal electrical codes and safety regulations.
- Work overtime, alternate shifts, weekends, or holidays as required by operational needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Licensed Industrial Electrician (442A) required; 309A considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of industrial electrical experience.
- Strong knowledge of PLC systems, control systems, servo drives, and AC/DC drives.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex production equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Experience in food manufacturing or GMP environments considered an asset.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
- Strong time management skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work shift rotations, including days, afternoons, nights, and occasional weekends.
- Reliable transportation to Markdale or willingness to relocate prior to start date.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain standing, walking, crouching, or bending for extended periods.
- Work performed in an industrial manufacturing environment with exposure to mechanical and electrical hazards.
- Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toed safety boots and safety glasses (provided as required).
- Overtime may be required based on operational demands.
- Manual dexterity required for precision electrical work and troubleshooting tasks.
Schedule:
- 42.5 hours per week
- Days / afternoons rotating every 2 weeks and a weekend nightshift every 6-10 weeks
- Or a steady night shift with premium
Compensation
At Chapman’s, compensation is guided by a pay-for-performance philosophy that recognizes and rewards individual contributions.
Incentive:$2500 signing bonus payable upon the completion of the 3-month probationary period.
Wages
$43 per hour
- $1 Shift Premium for Straight Nights (10 pm-7 am)
- $3 Shift Premium for Weekends
