Full job description

Position Summary

The SPD Program is seeking compassionate, dependable, and experienced Support Workers to provide direct support to an individual with complex behavioral, developmental, and safety needs.

This position requires an individual who is confident working within a structured environment, able to respond calmly to challenging situations, and committed to providing person-centered support while maintaining the individual's dignity, safety, and quality of life.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively as part of a 2:1 staffing team and follow established behavioral support plans, risk management strategies, and organizational policies.

Key Responsibilities

Provide direct person-centered support during awake overnight shifts.
Maintain continuous supervision while promoting independence and dignity.
Implement Behavior Support Plans, Positive Behavior Support strategies, and Risk Management Plans.
Monitor and respond appropriately to behavioral escalations using approved de-escalation techniques.
Complete routine safety and wellness checks throughout the shift.
Support personal care as required while respecting privacy and dignity.
Administer medication (where delegated and trained).
Complete accurate daily documentation, progress notes, and incident reports.
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized living environment.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other professionals.
Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development.
Ensure all supports are delivered in accordance with agency policies and provincial legislation.

Qualifications

Diploma or Certificate in Disability Studies, Community Support, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field (preferred).
Equivalent education and experience will be considered.

Experience

Minimum one year of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities or complex needs.
Experience supporting individuals with behavioral challenges, mental health concerns, autism spectrum disorder, acquired brain injury, or dual diagnosis is considered an asset.
Experience working within a 2:1 staffing environment is an asset.

Required Certifications

Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Intervention Record Check
Standard First Aid & CPR Level C
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) or equivalent (preferred)
Medication Administration Training (asset)
Class 5 Driver's License (preferred)
Mental Health First Aid Training
