The Meat Manager will focus on building public awareness and profitability of our Meat. This individual will identify areas of financial and operational concern, and will work with our food store management team to correct these deficiencies by demonstrating day-to-day behavior's and actions that align with and strengthen the Co‑operative’s vision, mission, values, brand, and a focus on safety.
The Meat Manager is part of the Food Team and reports directly to the Food Store Manager. The Meat Manager will work in concert with the Food Team, Controller, Human Resource’s, and Loss Prevention Managers to ensure the optimal operation of the Meat.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES PILLARS
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
People:
· Provide direction to Team Members and enforce employee productivity targets for each department
· Foster an atmosphere of employee engagement by sharing goals, plan and results consistently with your entire team
· Celebrate successes and acknowledge a job well done
· Lead, reward and discipline all team members in accordance with Pembina West Co-op policies and procedures
· Coordinate and attend regular Team meetings and review operational concerns and opportunities
· Guide Meat supervisors through Federated Co-op ADVANCE training as required
· Ensure all legislated training is completed by all employees as required. (WHIMIS, Food Safe etc)
· Assist in the development of annual work plans for all team members
· Semi Annually Review the progress of each team member; recognize their achievements and guide them through required areas of development
· Provide leadership in the roll-out and implementation of new and existing programs
· Plan and coordinate commodity-specific courses and seminars
· Identify training needs in your department and work with the Human Resources Department to complete an annual Team Training & Development Plan
· Identify candidates for potential future development and make Human Resources Department aware of these individuals
Market:
· Work with our Marketing and Media Coordinator’s work with the Food Management Team to create an annual Food Marketing Plan
· Be a liaison and public relations representative for the Co-op within the communities we serve, by delivering world-class customer service that is fast, friendly and efficient
· Exemplify the Co-op brand personality; strive to be Friendly, Caring, Proud, Authentic, Trusted, Honest, Successful and Knowledgeable in each and every interaction with our members, customers, employees, suppliers, and stakeholders

· Work closely with the Food Team Managers and Marketing Manager in developing and implementing successful marketing campaigns to boost store sales and consumer awareness of the Co-op value proposition
· Enhance our price image by enforcing strong execution of marketing programs such as “Scratch & Save,” “Price Drop” and an aggressive “Manager’s Special” program
· Coordinate “Manager’s Special” pricing within your department
· Identify external competitive pressures and an effective response to them
· Identify local suppliers and work to integrate Alberta product into our food stores
Operations:
· Review your Strategic Plan quarterly with all Team Members and identify efficiencies
· Working with your Team Supervisors to implement operational improvements
· Work with Food Team Leaders to create an Annual SWOT analysis
· Work with Food Team Leaders to complete and annually update your 5-year Strategic Plan
· Communicate regularly with appropriate Team members to ensure best practices are being adhered to and each department is achieving, at a minimum, CRS system averages (SPEH, Value Added Production, In-store Demo’s ETC)
· Identify innovation taking place in individual stores, and share knowledge between managers
· Inform Food Division Manager and store management of retail operational issues and feedback
· Act as liaison between our locations and FCL region officeregarding: ordering, claims, scan-backs, customer service, product and quality issues, program communication and general trouble-shooting
· Provide timely communication to our locations through e-mails, telephone calls, conference calls, clinics and one-on-one meetings during store visitations
· Handle employee complaints and incidents, including conflict resolution, accidents, health and safety concerns, work refusals, and investigations
· Other duties, as required
Financial:
· Identify opportunities and deficiencies on sales, margins, expense control, inventory controls, merchandising, marketing standards, security and government regulations; set and enforce clear standards
· Review financial statements with Store Manager following each completed period; identify areas of concern and develop strategies where corrections are required
· Assist Food Manager, Controller and store management in annual division budgeting process
· Ensure immediate follow through on all recommendations arising from business reviews, RSC reports and score cards
· Assist Food Store managers in learning Co-op systems, including company policies and procedures, use of the VISTA software, ordering processes (including stock control sheets), claim procedures, scan-backs, centrally planned promotions and commitment buys, long-buying and manager’s specials, CASMs and planogram implementation, schedule-writing, food safety, inventory procedures, and merchandising for margin
· Support store management in developing literacy and understanding of Co-op financial statements
Sustainability:
· Coordinate department or total store remodels at each location as required
· Assist in evaluating retail departments and determine where department renovations are required

Pay: $21.00-$33.00 per hour
