Job Title: CNC Machinist
Location: Barrie, ON
Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent, In-person
Vacancies: 1

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist with strong expertise in large-scale machining environments. This role involves working with large vertical turning equipment combined with live tooling to machine very large and heavy components.

This is a custom job-shop environment with a high-mix, low-volume workload. The successful candidate must be comfortable working independently with limited supervision and handling complex, large-scale workpieces.

This is not a production or machine operator role.

Hourly Rate: $35.00 – $43.95+ bonus
Shift Premium: $1.75 per hour (afternoon shift)

Schedule: Rotational days to afternoons

What You’ll Do

Interpret blueprints, drawings, and job instructions
Determine setups, tooling, work holding, and machining strategies
Operate large vertical boring mills / vertical turning machines
Perform live tooling / mill-turn machining operations
Program CNC machines at the control for standard geometries
Collaborate with programming support (e.g., Mastercam) for complex parts
Perform in-process inspection and quality control checks
Use manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools as required
Deburr and finish parts during machine cycle times
Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas
Support apprentices and share technical knowledge
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

7+ years experience as a CNC Machinist
Experience with live tooling / mill-turn CNC machines
Proven ability to machine large components (8’ diameter and larger)
Experience with castings, weldments, and large solid materials
Experience with Heidenhain controls
