Job Title: TMA Driver

Status: Full-Time with benefits. This is a union position with LiUNA local 183

Reports To: Traffic Control Manager

Wage: Starting $26.42/hour, or as per CBA

About the Position

Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) Drivers are responsible for driving barrel and attenuator trucks (30’-40’ length) during lane closure setup and tear down as well as rolling slowdown closures. TMA drivers are also responsible for assisting with the setup and maintenance of safe work zones, including lane closures, signage, barricades, cones, and delineators. This role supports traffic control operations by helping regulate traffic movement, protecting road crews and the public, and maintaining a secure work zone environment.

TMA drivers work closely with supervisors and traffic technicians to coordinate site setup and teardown through constant radio and visual communication. They are also responsible for monitoring safety conditions, warning workers of errant vehicles or hazards, and reporting motorists who fail to follow traffic control devices. TMA drivers are responsible for conducting pre and post trip inspections, load securement checks and vehicle safety documentation.

This position is permanent or seasonal. Hours are not guaranteed. Peak hours occur during the summer construction season, during this time employees must be available for both day and night shifts based on project needs. This position is outdoors and subject to working in hot, cold, windy, rainy, and dark conditions, and may be close to home or far from home depending on project location.

Must be insurable with a clean driving record.

Responsibilities

Installation of permanent and temporary Traffic Safety equipment for customers
Create and set up work zones according to plan;
Physical setup and removal of devices such as barricades, pylons, signage, digital messaging boards, and AFADs
Assist with all aspects of on-site rental equipment including drop-off and pick-ups for customers
Complete required documentation of delivery/returned equipment
Assist with a large variety of outdoor installation projects from roadside signage to the guardrail and cable barriers
Operate a TMA Truck for use on high-speed roadways
Ensure ATS work vehicles are in good, clean working condition daily
Assisting with equipment maintenance (arrow boards, message boards, etc.)
Conduct traffic control/flagging as needed

Qualifications

A valid Graduated Class G Driver’s License and a Clean 3-Year Regular Drivers Abstract are required to drive our company vehicles. Class DZ license is preferred for TMA operators.
Approximately 1 year's progressive experience in the Traffic industry is an asset; preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated leadership experience.
Own vehicle to get to and from work is required. Previous experience operating one-ton flat-deck trucks is an asset!
A valid Traffic Control Person (Book 7) ticket is an asset
Previous construction experience, as well as hand/power tool proficiency, is an asset.
