Position Title: Lifeguard

Location: Vanderhoof Aquatic Centre (390 Columbia St E, Vanderhoof, BC V0J 0A8)

Terms: Temporary, Full-time

Shift: Shifts vary but include weekdays, evenings and weekends

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: $23.97 per hour

Start Date: June 29, 2026

End Date: August 23, 2026

Reports To: Supervisor, Aquatics

This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.

Nature & Scope:

The Lifeguard will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment.

Major Responsibilities - in this position, you will:

Guarding in a positive and professional manner
Build meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleagues
Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilities
Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all members and staff, including all locker rooms and spectator viewing areas.
Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practices
Remain flexible – willing to learn new skills, alter shifts
Attend staff meetings, planning sessions and training events as required

Qualifications -you bring:

Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 3 years)
CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)
National Lifeguard - Pool Option
Experience as a Lifeguard - preferred
Swim Instructor certification - preferred
YMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferred
High-school, must have completed Grade 10. Must be at least 16 years of age
Access to reliable transportation or a vehicle
Advanced leadership courses are an asset
Demonstrated high level of customer service skills
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date

Canada Summer Jobs Criteria

Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International participants are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
