The Facility Services department supports the academic mission of McMaster, its cutting-edge research, and world-class teaching and learning. Our team does this by developing innovative spaces to study, research, and work and by keeping our campus safe, clean, well-maintained, and beautiful. Our team of approximately 400 professionals is the primary caretaker of the university's physical environment and is one of the largest teams on campus. Our 400 dedicated professionals take pride in delivering quality and reliable services that support the University’s world-renowned teaching and research. The team is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 69 buildings, encompassing approximately 8.5 million square feet of space and about 377 acres of land. The team also supports other entities such as Hamilton Health Sciences, McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) and others. Facility Services operates 24/7, oversees more than 50 active construction projects at any given time, and manages over 12,000 service requests each year.

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, the Driver is responsible for courier duties for the efficient delivery of goods throughout the University campus and adjacent areas, ensuring all work is completed safely and in compliance with legislative requirements and University standards.

Representative Accountabilities

Primary Accountabilities

Pick up, transport, and drop off cargo and goods to and from various locations on campus and within the surrounding areas.
Operate University vehicles and equipment in accordance with applicable legislation, and prescribed University safety regulations and policy.
Safely load, unload, and move materials manually to and from trucks.
Complete minor disassembling of goods or obstacles in pathways in the transportation of goods.
Operate forklift, pump carts and dollies in a safe manner.
Maintain accurate records and logs of cargo transported and truck maintenance.
Maintain loading dock cleanliness.
Update and maintain records.
Perform routine vehicle safety inspections, including checking tire pressure, fluid levels, and lights.
Follow established campus routes and adjust delivery schedules as needed in response to operational changes.
Verify delivery documentation such as shipping labels, work orders, and material safety data sheets
Safely handle and transport pre-packaged hazardous materials following applicable safety procedures
Demonstrate professionalism and adaptability when responding to last-minute delivery changes or schedule disruptions.
Ensure materials are delivered to designated areas safely and without damage.
Use handheld devices or electronic tools to receive assignments, track deliveries, and complete documentation.
Identify and report any mechanical or equipment issues using established procedures.
Operate a motor vehicle, golf cart and/or forklift for transportation on campus.

General Accountabilities

Operate all vehicles within established safety regulations and applicable legislation.
Ensure compliance to all University Policies, and Health and Safety guidelines.
Communicate with fellow workers, faculty, students, staff and visitors in an appropriate and effective manner to establish effective working relationships and respond to needs.
Demonstrate behaviours consistent with values including teamwork, respect, ownership, perseverance, and continuous growth, while delivering high-quality work in a safe, collaborative, and customer-focused manner.
Additional duties as assigned by University appointed leadership.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid and unrestricted Ontario Class G-license is required.
Forklift training required.

Experience: 6 months of related experience.
