Full job description

At Forum Law LLP we believe in our people, our mission and how we do business is a priority. We are looking for a legal assistant to join our Calgary office who is a good combination of skills and fit. You must a minimum of 2 to 3 years of recent Alberta law firm experience in civil litigation and/or family law. You must be reliable and able to work with minimal supervision and a high degree of accuracy.

Key responsibilities:

Drafting, preparing and typing of legal documents and court forms and correspondence.
Managing an electronic document filing system.
Arranging for service and filing of documents (both electronic and paper) and related instructions to process servers/agents and courts.
Preparing and maintaining a bring-forward system and diarizing court dates, questionings, meetings, and appointments.
Dealing with and responding to client inquiries and conducting follow up as required.
Processing incoming and outgoing mail, including maintenance of electronic email accounts.
Preparing client accounts and following up on payment and retainer top-ups.
Updating and maintaining client/matter lists.
Scheduling appointments and meetings, photocopying materials, scanning and organizing materials, booking meeting rooms, etc.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education:

Strong computer literacy, including effective working skills in Outlook and Microsoft Office (EsiLaw/Unity Accounting experience is an asset);
Strong word processing skills;
Positive attitude and passion for excellence;
Strong written and oral communication skills;
Extraordinary organizational skills;
Excellent time management, multitasking and prioritization skills;
Ability to handle confidential information;
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively;
Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to set priorities.

Graduate of a Legal Assistant program is preferred however years of legal assistant/paralegal experience will be considered.
