Who You Are
You are passionate, adaptable, and driven to help students succeed. You enjoy creating interactive, fun, and meaningful learning experiences. You bring:
- A proven ability to engage with children of all abilities, including those with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and other learning differences.
- A talent for making learning joyful and engaging, ensuring students feel supported and confident.
- Substantial teaching and/or tutoring experience.
- An ability to use assessment strategies to identify gaps in learning.
- Comfort with technology and the ability to teach both online and in-person.
- Excellent grammar, spelling, and writing skills.
- Strong communication skills and a reliable, professional approach to email and scheduling.
- A flexible and dependable nature.
- A commitment to ongoing professional growth and learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1-1 and small group structured literacy instruction tailored to each student's specific needs.
- Develop and implement lesson plans that are research-based and align with the Science of Reading.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adjusting instruction as necessary to ensure ongoing development.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for supporting learning at home.
- Respond promptly to scheduling messages and administrative communications from The Reading Room.
Additional Responsibilities
As part of your role, we ask tutors to participate minimally in creating content for our social media platforms. This may include sharing teaching insights, highlighting success stories, or showcasing engaging activities that resonate with our mission.
Qualifications We're Looking For
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) or equivalent teaching degree, with a valid Canadian Teaching Certificate. Currently enrolled B.Ed. students are welcome to apply.
- Training and/or certification in Orton-Gillingham or Structured Literacy methods is preferred.
- Availability for a minimum commitment of 2 days per week, approximately 3 hours per day, between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
- Additional daytime hours may be available during the summer months for tutors with weekday daytime flexibility.
- Must be available to start in summer 2026 and continue through the 2026-2027 school year. Applicants who are only available for the summer will not be considered.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $40.00-$55.00 per hour
