Junior Accountant

Location: Calgary, AB
Employment Type: Full-Time

About Acden Aves

Acden Aves is an environmental services company specializing in wildlife management, avian monitoring, and bird deterrent services throughout Alberta's oil sands. We are committed to providing safe, innovative, and environmentally responsible solutions while fostering a collaborative and supportive workplace.

As our company continues to grow, we are looking for a Junior Accountant to join our Finance team. This role is ideal for someone who wants to develop a career in accounting while supporting multiple business operations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the General Manager, the Junior Accountant will support the day-to-day accounting functions of the organization. The successful candidate will assist with financial reporting, reconciliations, payroll support, accounts payable and receivable, and month-end activities while ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.

Key Responsibilities

Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Prepare and post journal entries.
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
Assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
Prepare account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies.
Assist with payroll processing, payroll reconciliations, and employee expense reimbursements.
Prepare and file GST returns and other government remittances.
Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
Assist with project costing and job cost tracking.
Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
Prepare supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company policies and accounting standards.
Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and finance process enhancements.
Provide administrative and accounting support to the Finance team as required.

Qualifications

Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
1–3 years of accounting experience is preferred.
Recent graduates with relevant education and co-op experience are encouraged to apply.
Working toward a CPA designation is considered an asset.
Experience with ERP/accounting software (NetSuite preferred) is considered an asset.
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience working with project costing or service-based organizations is an asset.
