Bi-weekly Hours: 70
Schedule: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
Location: On-site at 550 West 6th Avenue, in Vancouver

Who We Are
The British Columbia Teachers' Federation (BCTF), located on the unceded ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəyəm, Səlilwətaɬ/Selilwitulh, and Sḵwxwú7mesh Nations since 1917, is a union of professionals representing over 52,000 kindergarten to grade 12 public school teachers throughout the province of BC.

About The Role
The Communications Assistant provides administrative, communications, and digital publishing support to the director and assistant directors in the Communications and Campaigns Division (CCD), which is responsible for the Federation’s internal and external communications, as well as the Annual General Meeting (AGM), Representative Assemblies (RA), Executive Committee (EC), and related officer activities.

The duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

providing administrative support (proofreading, agendas, minutes, posting documents, travel and meeting arrangements, contact lists, general administrative tasks)
taking draft hardcopy and electronic documents from a variety of sources and converting them into various digital formats suitable for electronic publishing and transmission
managing committee and task force recruitment (posting jobs, tracking applications, updating applicants, maintaining records)
supporting events and conferences (preparing materials, managing logistics, assisting onsite and online, co-ordinating setup and services)
creating and sending member communications; managing contact lists and tracking engagement
copyediting the Teacher magazine
managing magazine advertising and co-ordinating with advertisers and accounting
managing subscriptions and distribution for Teacher magazine
co-ordinating Community Outreach grants
providing backup support to staff and leadership
performing other related duties as assigned.

Experience

Two (2) years’ experience performing administrative duties within a similar environment.
Demonstrated experience with proofreading and copyediting.
Demonstrated experience with digital technology and social media platforms.
Demonstrated experience with the Microsoft Office suite.
Demonstrated ability to perform effectively, both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, and the ability to meet time sensitive deadlines.

Qualifications

Completion of secondary school (Grade 12) plus one (1) year in office/administrative methods and procedures.
Coursework in proofreading and copyediting.
Coursework in effective minute taking.
