JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Safety & Compliance Coordinator
Purpose of Role
Work alongside the Manager of Health & Food Safety and team to encourage a robust food safety culture with a focus on continuous improvement. The Safety & Compliance Coordinator is an on-the-floor role and will be a constant resource for the production area. You will address any concerns related to Health and Food Safety and see the concerns are addressed in a timely manner. You will also take a leading role in the facilitation of an effective Health and Safety program.
Hours of Work
TBD – 40 hours per week but candidate must be flexible with shift hours as needed.
(Must be open to working weekends, when needed)

Position Reports To
Health and Food Safety Manager
Duties and Responsibilities
· Conduct daily inspections of the production area, observing employee practices, and assisting to correct any non-compliances. This may include but is not limited to: personal hygiene practices, proper use of PPE, site security measures, pest activity, facility sanitation, etc. Report all findings to Health & Food Safety Manager, using required documents. Inspections may include periodic quizzing of staff on Good Manufacturing Processes (GMPs) and procedural items.
· Conduct inspections of the interior and exterior of the facility, reporting any food safety or health and safety issues to the Health & Food Safety Manager. Issue work orders as needed.
· Perform periodic Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) swabbing tests of specific locations across the farm to check for adequate sanitation and carry out microbiological/environmental testing, when directed by Health & Food Safety Manager.
· Report any non-conformance observations to supervisors and Health & Food Safety Manager on a daily basis, utilizing appropriate records.
· Assist Health & Food Safety Manager with administrative duties, including but not limited to, filing and organizing of records as requested.
· Assist in the development and implementation of new training materials.
· Assist in the investigation and reporting of health and safety incidents, including root cause analysis and corrective actions, as needed.
· Assist colleagues regarding GMPs, Health and Food Safety items as required.
· Monitor all sanitation and daily handwashing/glove-change activities in each department and report findings. Address non-conformances in handwashing, sanitation and personal hygiene directly with the team member in real time.
· Observe each department’s use of food safety records and ensure proper completion of those records, directing those with questions to management for demonstrations on company expectations.
· Complete regular safety boot inspection to ensure all staff members are wearing proper CSA approved “Green Triangle” safety shoes in good repair.
· Ensure chemical storage, documentation and recordkeeping is compliant and assist with monthly chemical titrations as needed.
· Facilitate health and safety inspections, fire drills and other health and safety verifications as required.
· Participate in mock recalls with employees and management members, as requested.
· Be open and available to assist with above duties at sister farm (Peeters Mushrooms Inc.) as required.
· Conduct monthly inspections of Temporary Foreign Worker housing (bunkhouses), report non-compliances to applicable parties.
· Observe morning shift stretch routine as needed, report any problems to department supervisors.
· Build a working relationship with supervisors as a liaison of the Health & Food Safety Manager.
· Conduct food safety and health and safety onboarding training to new employees and department transfers as needed. Liaise with supervisors to communicate revisions to programs/documents, train staff on changes to departmental practices as required.
· Be an approachable and knowledgeable liaison of the Food Safety department while working with your production staff colleagues.
· Be an active member of the HACCP (SQF) Team and JHSC.
· Stay up-to-date on current Health and Safety regulations as an active member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
The above is not an exhaustive list of duties, and you will be expected to perform different tasks as deemed necessary by your changing role within the farm and the overall business objectives of the farm.
Qualifications
· 1-3 years’ experience in the food manufacturing industry is preferred. Training specific to Peeters Mushroom Farm will be provided.
· Knowledge and understanding of SQF code and Provincial health and safety regulations is preferred.
Working Conditions
This position will be primarily indoors in a temperature-controlled environment, with occasional tasks outdoors. Workers may be subject to conditions such as humidity, rain, and cold as they travel throughout the farm. Applicants will work closely with coworkers and management but will occasionally have periods of time when they work alone. It is expected that applicants wear all applicable PPE mandated for each department as well as hairnets, beard-nets, & CSA approved work boots continuously while on the farm floor.
Physical Requirements
It is important that applicants have good physical stamina to endure long days in an agricultural environment. Applicants must be aware this job will require extended periods of walking and standing in one place, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching while in steel toe shoes. Please inform management of any physical impairments.
Pay: $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40.0 per week
