Full job description

Facilities Caretaker

Location: Pretty River Academy, Collingwood, Ontario
Position Type: 1-Year Contract
Schedule: 26 hours per week | 5 days per week | Afternoon Shift

Pretty River Academy is seeking a reliable, hardworking, and self-motivated Facilities Caretaker to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our students, staff, and visitors. This hands-on position is ideal for someone who enjoys a variety of work, from custodial duties and building maintenance to groundskeeping and facility support.

Key Responsibilities

Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of classrooms, washrooms, offices, hallways, and common areas.
Perform routine custodial duties, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, garbage removal, and sanitizing.
Complete minor building repairs and preventative maintenance.
Assist with setting up and taking down furniture and equipment for school events.
Maintain the school grounds, including lawn care, weed trimming, litter collection, leaf removal, snow clearing, ice control, and seasonal outdoor maintenance.
Conduct routine inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
Provide basic troubleshooting of school technology and equipment as needed, referring complex issues to external support.
Ensure the school building is secure at the end of each shift.
Perform other facility-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

Previous custodial, janitorial, building maintenance, or facilities experience.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 lbs and working indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
Reliable, trustworthy, and committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment.
Must have legal eligibility to work in Canada.
Must reside in Canada.
WHMIS training and knowledge of workplace health and safety practices.
A current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) is required.

Assets

Experience working in a school or educational environment.
Experience with landscaping, lawn care, snow removal, and grounds maintenance.
Basic IT troubleshooting skills, including computers, printers, projectors, interactive displays, and classroom technology.
