About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Director of Finance will provide critical financial and leadership services in financial strategy, financial planning, annual budgeting, receipt and disbursement of funds, accounting, procurement, and asset management.
The Director of Finance leads the finance and payroll teams and collaborates with senior leadership and external stakeholders to maintain financial integrity and support sustainable program delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting Operations
- Lead the preparation and delivery of accurate, timely financial statements for senior leadership, Banks, and auditors.
- Lead and manage the month-end close process, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of financial results.
- Oversee all core accounting operations, including payroll, accounts payable/receivable, purchasing, and cash management.
- Oversee complex accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting financial schedules.
- Oversee revenue cycle processes, including billing and collections, to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
Financial Planning, Analysis & Performance Management
- Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and cost modelling to support strategic initiatives and new programs.
- Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, financial planning, and performance monitoring.
- Evaluate project and program viability to support informed decision-making.
- Deliver detailed financial and cost centre analysis to support operational leaders in managing performance and controlling costs.
- Monitor controllable expenses, identify trends, and recommend opportunities to improve cost efficiency and financial performance.
- Establish and monitor financial and operational benchmarks to support performance management.
Governance, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead the annual audit process and maintain strong relationships with auditors, banks, and external partners.
- Strengthen financial systems, processes, and internal controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
- Ensure effective financial controls and stewardship, including oversight of cash flow and surplus investment strategies.
Leadership, Collaboration & Strategic Support
- Lead, coach, and develop the Finance team, fostering accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Build effective cross-functional partnerships and represent Finance in key organizational initiatives.
- Support financial input into proposals and RFPs for new programs and funding opportunities.
What You Bring
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration from a recognized Canadian Institute, or its equivalent.
- CPA CGA/CMA designation, or working towards designation.
Experience
- Minimum 6 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a funding environment.
- Experience managing full-cycle accounting operations, including financial reporting.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Experience managing payroll and related compliance requirements.
- Experience working with accounting and business systems.
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong knowledge of and adherence to the accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of government funding and contract compliance requirements.
- Experience with cost and project-based accounting methods.
- Understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and cost control practices.
- Knowledge of payroll processes, employment standards, and benefits administration.
- General understanding of business operations in a service-based environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
- Proven leadership and team management skills, including coaching and mentoring.
- Focus on continuous improvement of processes and systems.
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural competence, equity, and inclusion.
- Language requirements: English required; French is an asset.
Work Environment
- Hybrid role with a combination of independent work and collaboration with internal teams and senior leadership.
- Fast-paced environment with multiple priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements.
- Regular interaction with finance staff, program leads, and external stakeholders such as auditors, funders, and financial institutions.
- High level of responsibility for confidential financial and employee information.
- Occasional extended hours may be required during peak periods such as month-end, year-end, audits, and budgeting cycles.
- Use of computer-based financial systems and tools for extended periods.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to travel to different locations within Ontario; access to a reliable vehicle is required.
- Must provide a clear Enhanced Police Check (Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Check) .
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Pay: $125,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
