Position: Cleaner

Number of Positions: One (1)

Vacancy: Existing

Classification: Temporary Part Time

Location: Main Branch

Salary/Wage: $17.60 per hour

Schedule: 48 hours per two-week period, Sunday to Saturday; evenings and weekends required.

Date Posted: Tuesday June 2, 2026

Closing Date: Tuesday June 16, 2026

Duration: One temporary 18 month vacancy, with the possibility for extension

Position Summary

Ajax Public Library is currently recruiting for one (1) temporary Cleaner position (part-time). Under the direct supervision of the Coordinator of Safety and Operations and in a manner that is consistent with the Ajax Public Library’s overall visions and goals, the Cleaner is responsible for cleaning and maintaining Library facilities.

Education and Experience

Secondary School diploma
Minimum three months’ relevant cleaning experience

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of proper cleaning and disinfecting procedures, operation of floor scrubbers, carpet cleaners, and various cleaning equipment.
Must be able to wear and use appropriate personal safety equipment and clothing.

Position Responsibilities

Sweeps, washes and strips floors.
Vacuums, empties garbage, washes windows and doors.
Cleans washrooms, community rooms and common areas.
Perform room set-up and take down for functions and programs and cleans room after function or program has ended.
Liaises with the public to provide basic information regarding the facility.
Other duties as assigned.
