Full job description

We are a growing public accounting, providing accounting, tax, bookkeeping, payroll, and advisory services to small and medium-sized businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals. We pride ourselves on delivering personalized service, practical financial advice, and building long-term relationships with our clients. As our firm continues to grow, we are looking for a motivated Staff Accountant to join our collaborative team.

Position Summary

The Staff Accountant will play a key role in delivering accounting and tax services to a diverse portfolio of clients. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in public accounting, has strong attention to detail, and is looking to grow within a supportive and client-focused CPA firm.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare compilation engagements and financial statements for owner-managed businesses.
Perform bookkeeping, bank and credit card reconciliations, and maintain general ledgers.
Prepare and post journal entries.
Assist with month-end and year-end accounting processes.
Prepare corporate, personal, and trust income tax returns.
Prepare GST/HST, payroll, and other government filings.
Assist with tax planning and client compliance requirements.
Communicate directly with clients to gather information and respond to accounting inquiries.
Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies.
Support senior accountants and partners with client engagements and special projects.
Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting standards and CRA requirements.
Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and client service.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA designation or enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) is an asset.
1–3 years of experience in public accounting is preferred.
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
Experience preparing corporate and personal tax returns.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple client deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Technical Skills

Experience with CaseWare, CaseView, QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Sage, or similar accounting software.
Experience using TaxPrep, Profile, or other Canadian tax preparation software is considered an asset.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.

Pay: $50,000.00-$59,000.00 per year
