Full job description

The short version

We build custom window coverings, and over the years we've accumulated hundreds of components: brackets, cassettes, end caps, tubes, chains, clips, side channels, motors, fasteners. Most of them exist only as a physical part in a bin and a line on a purchase order. Some have a drawing, some have a supplier PDF, most have nothing.

We want one person to work through all of it. Measure every part, draw it properly in CAD, photograph it, and turn each one into a clean spec sheet that matches the format we already use.

It's a big, well-defined project with a clear finish line. If you like taking a mess and turning it into something organized and correct, this is that job.

About Bold Blinds

We manufacture and supply custom window coverings: roller shades, zebra shades, cellular, drapery, and motorization. We sell to dealers and installers across Canada. We're small and hands-on, which means the person doing this work talks directly to the people who designed the products and the people who assemble them.

What you'll actually do

Measure

Work through our parts inventory part by part, using calipers and gauges
Record dimensions, materials, finishes, thread sizes, tube diameters, and tolerances
Cross-check against supplier drawings and PDFs where they exist, and flag anything that doesn't match

Draw

Produce accurate 2D drawings, and 3D models where the part warrants it
Work from physical samples, existing DWG and IPT files, and supplier documentation
Keep files named, versioned, and organized so the next person can find them

Photograph

Shoot clean, consistent product photos of each part against a neutral background
Basic editing and cropping so every image in the library looks like it belongs to the same set

Build the spec sheets

Assemble the drawing, photo, dimensions, and part data into a one-page spec sheet per part
Follow the layout and branding we already use, so the new sheets sit beside the existing ones without looking out of place
Keep the master parts list updated as you go

Who this is for

You can read and produce a proper dimensioned drawing, and you know what a tolerance is
You're comfortable with calipers and you measure twice
You catch small errors that other people scroll past
You can work through a long list on your own without someone checking in hourly
You're organized about files, naming, and versions

Software we use or will accept:

AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar
Illustrator, InDesign, or Affinity for laying out the sheets
Excel or Sheets for the parts data

You don't need to know every one of these. Tell us what you do know and how deep it goes.

Nice to have:

Background in manufacturing, machining, millwork, or window coverings
Product photography experience
Technical writing or documentation work

No degree required. A portfolio of drawings you actually made counts for more than a certificate.

Details

Location: 9932 70 Ave NW, Edmonton, AB. This role is on-site, because the parts are here.
Schedule: Monday to Friday, daytime hours
Start: As soon as we find the right person

How we're hiring for this one

We're doing this in three steps, and we're telling you upfront so there are no surprises.

1. Online interview. A video call. We'll talk through your experience and show you what the parts and the existing spec sheets look like.

2. Paid trial project. From the interviews we'll pick five people. Each of you gets one of our products to work up as a mock version: measure it, draw it, and build the spec sheet the way you'd do it on the job. Every one of the five gets paid $100 for that work, whether or not we hire you. Your time is worth something and we're not going to ask for free samples.

3. One offer. We'll compare the five and make the job offer to one person.
