Full job description

Petrospec Engineering is currently seeking an experienced Coil Tubing Supervisor to lead and supervise field coiled tubing operations. This role is ideal for a motivated, detail-oriented professional who works well in a team environment, leads by example, and represents the company with professionalism both on-site and with clients.

Most work is performed at operator sites in heavy oil fields throughout northeast Alberta and Saskatchewan, with occasional international project opportunities. This is predominantly outdoor work performed alongside drilling rigs, service rigs, and other oilfield service providers. Accommodations for out-of-town assignments are typically provided through operator dry camps or hotels.

Working as part of a 2–4 person crew, the Coil Tubing Supervisor is responsible for directing field operations and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to Petrospec’s high standards of quality. This includes overseeing the installation, testing, pack-off, and termination of downhole instrumentation and related tools, while maintaining strong communication and coordination with crews, operators, and third-party service providers.

This is a safety-sensitive position requiring a valid driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and compliance with Petrospec’s Drug & Alcohol Testing Program. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Lead and supervise field coil tubing operations safely and efficiently, ensuring all work is executed in accordance with company procedures, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
Provide day-to-day leadership, mentorship, and direction to field crews, fostering teamwork, accountability, and a strong safety-first culture both in the shop and at customer worksites.
Champion Petrospec’s Health, Safety, and Quality standards, leading by example, actively participating in hazard assessments, toolbox talks, site safety meetings, and ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and internal safety programs.
Safely operate, inspect, service, and maintain custom coiled tubing units and associated equipment, ensuring operational readiness, reliability, and proper certification compliance.
Plan and coordinate job preparation, mobilization, and demobilization activities, ensuring crews, equipment, tools, and consumables are organized, stocked, and ready for safe and efficient execution.
Collaborate with Project Engineers, Operations Management, operators, and third-party service providers to support pre-job planning, operational execution, and successful project completion.
Oversee installation, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of downhole instrumentation, control systems, and related equipment, ensuring quality workmanship and successful system integration at the wellsite.
Monitor equipment condition and inventory levels, ensuring preventative maintenance, inspection schedules, and certification requirements are met and documented.
Conduct pre- and post-trip vehicle/equipment inspections, maintain accurate driver logbooks, and ensure all transportation and equipment activities are completed safely and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
Operate site equipment competently and safely, including support equipment, lifting equipment, and other machinery required for field, shop, and assembly operations.
Identify operational improvements and contribute to the development of procedures, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, and service quality.
Provide timely communication, field reporting, and constructive operational feedback to Operations Management, including identification of equipment issues, operational risks, and opportunities for improvement.
Support shop operations as required, including equipment staging, deliveries, facility organization, maintenance activities, and general housekeeping responsibilities.
Maintain professionalism and represent Petrospec positively with customers, contractors, and coworkers, building strong relationships through safe execution, reliability, and quality service delivery.
Perform additional duties as assigned in support of operational requirements and company growth initiatives.

Qualifications

Valid Canadian Class 1 or Class 3 Driver’s License with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
2–5+ years of North American coil tubing experience, with demonstrated competency in field operations, equipment handling, and wellsite execution.
1–3+ years of leadership or supervisory experience, with the ability to effectively direct crews, delegate responsibilities, and maintain accountability in a fast-paced field environment.
Strong working knowledge of coil tubing equipment, maintenance requirements, pressure control equipment, and safe operating procedures.
Proven ability to lead crews safely and efficiently at customer worksites, while maintaining a high standard of workmanship, professionalism, and operational excellence.
Experience coordinating with operators, drilling/service rig personnel, and third-party service companies to ensure smooth job execution and strong working relationships on location.
Demonstrated commitment to health, safety, and regulatory compliance, with the ability to lead safety meetings, conduct hazard assessments, and reinforce safe work practices among crew members.
Mechanically inclined, with the ability to troubleshoot field equipment issues, identify maintenance requirements, and support preventative maintenance initiatives.
Current industry safety certifications including H2S Alive, Standard First Aid/CPR, PST/CSO, and BOP (or willingness to renew/update prior to start date).
Physically fit and capable of performing manual labour in demanding field environments, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and extended outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
Comfortable working a mix of local and rotational remote assignments, including travel throughout Alberta, Saskatchewan, and occasional international assignments, with accommodations provided when working out of town.
Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to remain calm and make sound decisions under pressure.
Must successfully complete and maintain compliance with Petrospec’s Drug & Alcohol Testing Program, including pre-access, post-incident, reasonable cause, and random testing requirements, as this is a safety-sensitive position.
