Engineer-in-Training (EIT)
Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta
Work Location
This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta, and requires the successful candidate to reside locally. Due to the operational nature of the role and the need to provide timely support to the maintenance and operations teams, remote, fly-in/fly-out (FIFO), and rotational work arrangements are not available. Regular attendance at the Fort McMurray location is a requirement of this position.
Mission
The Engineer-in-Training supports the successful delivery and performance of Canada Pump & Power's equipment and services by providing technical expertise, engineering support, and practical solutions. Through collaboration, continuous learning, and a commitment to safety, quality, and customer service, this role contributes to reliable equipment performance, operational efficiency, and the successful execution of projects across the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and provide customer support for Canada Pump & Power's equipment asset tracking systems.
- Investigate equipment failures, diagnose mechanical issues, and recommend corrective and preventative solutions.
- Research and analyze customer specifications, engineering drawings, manuals, and technical data to evaluate design feasibility, maintenance requirements, and project costs.
- Maintain current knowledge of new products, technologies, and industry developments through continuous learning.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of competitor products and technologies.
- Provide technical support to internal teams on mechanical products and equipment.
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Sales, and other departments to support successful project execution.
- Provide customers with technical assistance regarding equipment specifications, installation, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance through phone and email support.
- Identify, evaluate, and build relationships with suppliers for specialized equipment while negotiating pricing and managing vendor performance.
- Monitor and manage inventory levels using HubSpot and other internal systems.
- Maintain accurate documentation, records, and engineering data.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of engineering processes and best practices.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Mechatronics, Electrical, Software Engineering, or another related engineering discipline.
- Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
- Knowledge of, or experience with, mechanical equipment such as pumps, pumping systems, marine equipment, dredges, or commercial diving equipment is considered an asset.
- Ability and willingness to learn how to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Successful completion of pre-employment and site-access drug, alcohol, and controlled substance testing.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence with a minimum three-year driving history and an acceptable driver's abstract.
- Successful completion of all required internal training programs.

Work Environment
- Combination of office and field-based work.
- Primarily sedentary office work with occasional site visits.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, dust, and wet environments while visiting project sites.
- Occasional travel to project locations may be required.
Physical Demands
- Sit for extended periods while performing computer-based work.
- Use a computer and standard office equipment for prolonged periods.
- Stand and walk throughout shop and project sites as required.
- Lift and carry light materials and supplies.
- Navigate around equipment, work areas, and obstacles safely.
- Occasionally crouch, kneel, or bend to inspect or connect equipment and components.
Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
