Full job description

Function

The incumbent will provide casework management in accordance with the National Standards set out by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada. She/he will be responsible for matching volunteer mentors with children and youth, and for monitoring those matches to ensure the healthy development of the relationships.

The Mentoring Coordinator will work within the guidelines, policies and mission of the Agency and will be accountable and responsible for specific projects as assigned.

Primary Responsibilities

accept and document applications of potential volunteers and clients (including parent, guardian, child, youth, etc.)
manage intake of children and volunteers, including orientation, interviewing, screening etc.
conduct reference checks of potential volunteers
inform volunteers of their acceptance or rejection
inform families of the reasons for the denial of service or for the closing of an application or referral
contact schools or other involved social service agencies as appropriate for assessment input
conduct the Pre-Match Training program with Mentors, Mentees and parents/guardians
maintain case notes on all cases in accordance with the National Standards
facilitate the match closure process for Mentor, Mentee and parent/guardian
provide regular reports to the Executive Director, or special reports as requested
maintain strict confidentiality as outlined in the agency's Privacy and Confidentiality Policy
ensure all mentees, parents/guardians and Mentors are informed of any pertinent agency information such as group programs, change of policy, change of address etc.
perform administrative functions as required to manage caseload
make referrals to other agencies as warranted
participate in committees as required
liaise with schools, other youth service agencies, other community groups, clubs or the public in general as required
assist with recreation events as required
complete a yearly performance appraisal, including goals and objectives for the coming year
remain aware of federal and provincial privacy legislation and the agency’s privacy policies and practices

Qualifications

In accordance with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Canada’s National Standards, all Mentoring Coordinators must:

“Have a two-year post-secondary diploma in a related field (e.g. education, social or human services, child and youth work, family studies, etc.) or equivalent qualifications.

In addition to this, the agency may require the incumbent to have:

effective oral and written communication skills
strong problem-solving skills
ability to interact with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds
ability to work independently and as part of a team
sound computer skills
ability to work flexible hours
access to a vehicle
bilingualism is an asset

Conditions of Employment

Salary: $40,000-$47,500 (35 hours per week)

Health, Dental, and AD&D
Full-time employees entitled to 2 weeks’ vacation.
Up to 5% RRSP contribution match after one year of service
