ACCOUNTANT - TORONTO, ON

We are currently looking for an Accountant to join our accounting department for a Property Management company located in Toronto (Yonge & Bloor). A minimum 1-2 years of property management accounting experience is required.

We are only accepting applications from candidates that currently live in Toronto, have permanent residence status, are able to work in Canada, and have all required paperwork.

Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare and post journal entries, maintain accurate GL accounts and ensure proper documentation.
Responsible in bank reconciliations and analysis
Month end and Year end closing activities, prepare schedules and ensure deadlines are met.
Posting of payroll, and various transactions to the general ledger
Assist in the preparation of financial statements and reports
Prepare audit documentation
Compile data for internal and external reporting for example but not limited to MPAC, EWRB reports
Prepare and file HST ensuring regulatory compliance and reporting
Responsible to post WSIB transactions to the GL and make WSIB payments, and HST payments.
Assist with Accounts payable
Receive supplier invoices and/or check online accounts for invoices as required.
Check and verify that all invoices received are properly supported with necessary documentation
i.e., a purchase order or quote, are correctly coded, and approved according to company policies
and procedures. This includes but is not limited to invoices, purchase orders, cheque requisitions,
tenant refunds and petty cash.
Act as a liaison with property managers, site staff, trade and suppliers regarding invoices and
purchase orders.
Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues.
Post invoices to the accounting system.
Perform the cheque run for supplier payments.
Reconcile accounts payable transactions.
Answer vendor/trade inquiries.
Assist with Accounts Receivable function, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
Maintain and update the tenant database, including processing changes for residents, co-tenants, occupants, and guarantors.
Perform administrative tasks, such as managing payments, charges and market rents within the accounting system.
Monitor receivable accounts to make sure payments are up to date.
Reconcile tenants’ security deposits to the general ledger
Review and process begin month cycle to verify tenant charges and ensure proper posting all tenant charges, including rent, additional rent, utilities, parking, storage, and other recoveries.
Generate monthly rent rolls and reconcile with general ledger
Electronically bank payments
Review lease agreements to confirm correct billing amounts.
Process tenants’ invoices accurately and on schedule, ensuring proper coding and supporting documentation.
Process Rent increase notices and maintain spreadsheets for Property Manager’s approval
Prepare forms and documentation for claims, collections, evictions, rent increases, and other related matters in accordance with the Residential Tenancies Act.
Assist with the application process for Above Guideline Increases (AGI), including eligibility assessments and documentation preparation, and service of documents to tenants.
Prepare adjusting AGI statements for tenants and post adjusting statements to the accounting system.
Create and maintain excel spreadsheets for Above Guideline Increases
Create and maintain reports in Excel and SQL as required.
Maintain accurate data in the accounting systems
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and strengthen internal controls
Responsible for any additional duties and responsibilities assigned to you by the Company acting reasonably, from time to time, in the Company’s sole discretion (collectively referred to as the “Duties”).

Skills and Experience:

Minimum 1-2 years of property management accounting experience is required.
Excellent knowledge and experience working with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel/Word/Outlook), Hopem software, Power BI, and SQL.
A great team player with strong communication skills.
Attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
Strong organizational, problem solving, time management, and analytical skills
Fluent in English - written and spoken. Other languages are always an asset especially French.
Strong IT background.
Experience with paperless office systems, scanning and process automatization.
