Full job description

O’Brien Fabrications Ltd. is a diversified metal fabrication shop that has been in operation since 1989. We service southwestern Ontario with work primarily completed in Guelph, Kitchener and Cambridge and surrounding areas. We operate in three key areas: Sheet Metal Roofing and Siding, Commercial HVAC, and Custom Welding. Projects range from residential/commercial construction, industrial maintenance, to industrial engineered build and spec projects. We specialize in the misc. metals such as access ladders, mezzanines, canopies, walk overs, ships ladders, custom railings, Mobile welding, and custom repair and maintenance.

Position Overview

We’re currently looking for proven experienced Apprentice Welder/Fitter to join our team. The ideal candidate has strong welding experience, can read and interpret fabrication drawings, and produces clean, accurate welds with attention to detail.

You’ll be working on a variety of custom projects — stainless, aluminum, and carbon steel — from small components to full assemblies as well as some steel installations.

Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret fabrication and assembly drawings
Cut and fabricate steel and perform general fitting and weld components to meet tight tolerances
Assist and work with other fitters within the team
Perform GMAW, SMAW and GTAW welding on various materials
Work with plate, sheet, and structural members
Maintain quality standards and attention to detail throughout fabrication
Operate shop tools and equipment safely and efficiently
Work in the field installing what we build or do onsite welding repairs
Able to do site measuring, assist to make sketches to be able to build from
Work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines
Keep a clean, organized, and safe work area

Qualifications

5–10 years proven experience in fabrication, fitting, and welding environment
Proficient in GMAW, GTAW and SMAW -all position an asset in CWB certification or working towards your SMAW 4G but is a requirement of the role
Strong blueprint reading and weld details
Experience with aluminum and stainless steel is a plus
Ability to work with minimal supervision and work alone if needed
Positive attitude and pride in workmanship

Certifications required

CWB welding tickets-all position

Working at heights training certificate

Elevated platforms ticket

Valid Drivers license with clean record
