Full job description

Parklawn Group is a Canadian company specializing in the storage, management, and recovery of physical assets—primarily motorized vehicles—across every province. Working closely with trustees, lenders, and major accounting & insolvency firms, Parklawn provides efficient, compliant, and compassionate solutions for asset surrender and recovery during bankruptcy and consumer proposal, insolvency proceedings. Parklawn has modernized and streamlined an industry previously dominated by slow, fragmented processes, offering white-glove service to both debtors and institutional clients.

We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager to oversee the full accounting cycle for Parklawn Group and serve as the organization's primary accounting resource. Reporting directly to leadership, this role is responsible for managing the controller and accounting staff, overseeing day-to-day bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, account reconciliations, payroll , month-end and year-end close activities, financial reporting, and ongoing process improvements.

The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise, proficiency in QBO, CRA filing processes, provincial tax differences with exceptional communication skills, providing accurate financial information, supporting business decision-making, and ensuring the efficient operation of the company's accounting function in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and account reconciliations.
Prepare and process invoices, payments, deposits, expense reports, and vendor transactions in a timely and accurate manner.
Perform monthly bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial records.
Lead month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for ownership and external stakeholders.
Coordinate payroll processing and ensure compliance with all applicable payroll, tax, and regulatory requirements.
Prepare and file HST and other government remittances while maintaining compliance with relevant legislation.
Monitor cash flow, track financial performance, and provide insights to support business planning and decision-making.
Maintain and continuously improve accounting processes, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Liaise with external accountants, auditors, financial institutions, trustees, and other professional advisors as required.
Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities through the collection, analysis, and reporting of financial data.
Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
Ensure all financial records, supporting documentation, and accounting systems are maintained in an organized and audit-ready manner.
Provide exceptional service and professional communication when working with internal stakeholders, external partners, and clients.
Take ownership of the organization's accounting function and contribute to the ongoing growth and operational success of Parklawn Group.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Postsecondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
Certified QBO specialist (Intuit Pro Advisor level 2 or higher)•CPA designation (or progress toward designation) is considered a strong asset but is not required.
5+ years of progressive accounting and bookkeeping experience, ideally in a small to mid-sized business environment.
Demonstrated experience managing the full accounting cycle, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
Strong understanding of Canadian accounting principles, payroll processes, and regulatory requirements, including HST remittances.
Proven ability to prepare accurate financial statements and maintain organized, audit-ready financial records.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, reconciliations, and reporting.
Exceptional attention to detail with a strong commitment to accuracy and accountability.
Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify process improvements and implement practical solutions.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
Self-motivated and highly accountable, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of the accounting function.
Experience working in an entrepreneurial or owner-managed business environment is considered an asset.
A proactive, hands-on approach and willingness to roll up your sleeves to support both strategic and day-to-day accounting activities.
