Position Overview
The Vice President, Development & Construction is a senior executive responsible for leading the strategic planning, design, and execution of a diverse portfolio of development projects, including hotels and resorts, multi-family residential buildings, mixed-use assets, and other large-scale real estate initiatives.
This role provides vision, direction, and cross-functional leadership to internal teams, external consultants, and development partners, ensuring that each project reflects brand standards, operational needs, and long-term strategic priorities. Various project managers will report to this position. Location for this role could be in either Kelowna or Calgary and work remotely or hybrid.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Portfolio Oversight
Lead the full development lifecycle for multiple concurrent projects.
Develop long-range strategies supporting growth, diversification, and market expansion.
Evaluate new development opportunities and feasibility studies.
Architectural & Design Leadership
Oversee architectural vision, design standards, and technical quality.
Guide internal and external design teams to ensure alignment with brand, sustainability, and guest/resident experience.
Review conceptual designs, schematics, construction documents, and value-engineering proposals.
Real Estate Development & Municipal Engagement
Lead zoning, permitting, land-use planning, and municipal approvals.
Build strong relationships with planners, officials, and regulatory bodies.
Ensure compliance with bylaws, building codes, and environmental regulations.
Project Management Excellence
Control schedules, budgets and project performance metrics to effectively manage owner risk through all stages of development
Direct architects, engineers, contractors, and consultants.
Resolve complex project challenges and ensure timely decision-making.
Partnerships & Stakeholder Relations
Lead investor relations and partnership development.
Collaborate with marketing, sales, and operations teams.
Represent the organization in negotiations with developers, hotel brands, and strategic partners.
Financial Leadership
Lead financial modeling, pro formas, capital planning, and ROI analysis.
Oversee budgets, procurement, and contract negotiations.
Provide executive reporting to President and Executive Leadership Team.
Qualifications & Experience
10–15+ years of progressive leadership in real estate development, architecture, or construction.
Proven experience delivering large-scale hotel, resort, multi-family, or mixed-use projects.
Strong understanding of municipal planning and development approvals.
Exceptional financial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
Professional designation in architecture, engineering, project management, or real estate preferred.
