Job Description

Looking for an Assistant Grower for our various Greenhouse Locations.

Job Responsibilities:

Knowledge of climate control program (Hoogendoorn)
Knowledge of labour program/system (Hortimax)
Work with Grower to ensure labour is properly planned
Evaluate new potential processes or new products to help increase revenue or save on operating costs
Help supervise and control plant nutrition at all crop stages, recommend fertilizer or biological applications
Ensure mixing and pesticide areas are always cleaned, organized and well maintained
Coordinate with Master grower and IPM specialists proper placement of pesticides and biologicals
Scouting for pests and diseases and discuss findings with Master Grower and IPM specialist
Determine proper times regarding crop maintenance (pruning, de-leafing, harvesting and winding)
Responsible for washing and sterilizing greenhouses during cleanup and replanting stages
Daily collection of water samples
Ensure hydroponic crops meet acceptable harvests
Recommend corrective actions on various crops at any stage
Responsible for taking water samples, assess results and communicate with Grower findings
Other responsibilities/tasks as assigned

Job Requirements :

Diploma in Agriculture or Horticulture
Health Canada Security Clearance, an asset
Pesticide License an asset
Experience as Assistant Grower an asset
Strong communication skills both verbal and written
Excellent time management, decision making and interpersonal skills
Team player
Must be able to work independently
Valid License as travel to various greenhouse locations required
Position requires Monday- Saturday, Holidays and after hours availability
Candidate must be able to stand, kneel, bend and walk for extended periods of time
Assistant Grower will be working with various people and cultures
Spanish speaking considered an asset, but not necessary
Will be working with pesticides and bees inside greenhouses
Candidate will be working under hot, humid conditions during summer months
Candidate must abide by Company policies and procedures pertaining to Health And Safety, Food Safety and Bio security
