Full job description

At Bineshiinh Wazison, we understand that healing happens through connection, culture, and care. We are a First Nations-led, non-profit organization that provides holistic, trauma-informed support to children and youth ages 0 to 18 who have complex needs. Each of our homes is guided by love, accountability, and the strength of our cultural teachings.

We are seeking Specialized Support Workers who are grounded, empathetic, and committed to supporting youth in a way that honours their lived experiences. This role is part of a 24-hour care model, working alongside House Parents in a rotation of 5 days on-2 days off or 10 days on-4 days off, depending on worker preference. Respite shifts consist of 4 consecutive 24 hour days. 12 hour and 8 hour shift work is also available in some homes.

This is more than a job—it’s a chance to be part of a healing journey rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As a Specialized Support Worker, you will play a vital role in a young person’s circle of care. You will be hands-on in the home and community, offering stability, mentorship, and culturally grounded guidance. Your work will include:

Supporting youth with daily routines, emotional regulation, and life skills, in partnership with House Parents and the care team.

Applying a trauma-informed, culturally safe approach to care—meeting young people where they are at

.• Helping implement the Signs of Safety model, focusing on strengths, safety networks, and youth empowerment.

Responding calmly and respectfully to crises and behavioral escalations, with a focus on relationship-based de-escalation

Supporting the cultural, spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical development of each child and youth.

Participating in youth programming, appointments, and cultural or recreational activities.

Assisting with documentation, including daily logs and incident reports.

Maintaining clear and timely communication with the care team to ensure consistency and alignment in supports.

Who You Are:

You bring heart and a deep respect for children and youth—especially those navigating grief, trauma, or instability.

You are dependable, calm under pressure, and able to build strong, trusting relationships.

You have experience working with young people who have complex needs and are committed to a strength-based, harm-reduction approach.

You are eager to learn, collaborate, and be part of a culturally grounded care model.

You are comfortable working as part of a close-knit, high-support team.

Qualifications & Assets:

Minimum 2 years of experience in youth work, social services, mental health, or a related helping profession.

Understanding of trauma, attachment, addictions, and child development.

Familiarity with the Signs of Safety model, or a willingness to learn.

Knowledge of First Nations culture, language, and traditional healing is a strong asset.

Valid First Aid/CPR, Class 5 Driver’s License, and access to a reliable vehicle (or willingness to obtain).

Clear Child Abuse Registry, Criminal Record Check, and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
