Cornell Park Therapy, Children's Treatment Services, is a growing Family-centred Multidisciplinary service provider focusing on the delivery of Evidence-based interventions for children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum and other Conditions, and their Families.
We are seeking:
- A College/University Student studying Art or Music
- to fill a Summer Contract position at our Markham, York Region location
- running alternating weekly 2 hr Morning Art and Music Classes
- with 1 hour of combined preparation, short-check-notes and cleanup (total 3hrs work per week)
- for students with Autism and related Conditions
- with the support of 2 Therapists
- In this role, the Art and Music Teacher will work under the supervision of and in collaboration with our Registered Behaviour Analyst as well as directly and collaboratively with children, their parents and other staff (Speech-Language Therapist, Communicative Disorders Assistant, Admin staff)
- Soft skills are very important
- This position may extend past the Summer

Please note that Interviews proceed in two phases:
(1) Candidates that meet minimum criteria will be invited to an Online interview.
(2) If selected we will invite you to an in-person meet and greet.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under the guidance of therapists, you will plan 2-3 Skill-appropriate Art activities per session, or 2-3 Skill-appropriate Musical activities per session
- One week prior to each session, you will provide a list of materials required to run the activities
- You will Interact with Learners in a manner that is helpful, kind, and appropriate, such that the interaction will motivate student participation and learning
- You will introduce each activity using visual verbal and visual methods, showing a finished product, where possible
- You will verbally and visually explain each activity
- You will verbally and visually show and demonstrate each step within each activity
- You will clearly verbally and visually communicate within each activity
- You will help children with their activities, where necessary
- You will help ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children in your session
- You will help set-up materials prior to the session
- You will help clean-up the session room following each session
- You will complete paperwork for each student after each session
- You will ensure the teaching environment remains safe, clean, disinfected and organized
- You will demonstrate professionalism with students, colleagues and all other people you encounter while at the Clinic
- Other duties may be assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have experience teaching children
- Must be able to work in a group with other staff
- Must demonstrate experience teaching (introduce the activity, explain the steps as they occur, show how to perform each step, further demonstrate, communicate, encourage, motivate, praise, offer help, validate, etc.) artistic and musical expressions in children
- Must demonstrate experience planning and organizing art and musical activities
- An interest in working with children who are different-abled and/or neurodiverse
- Able to explain and demonstrate to a child how to perform an art task or activity
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated ability for ongoing learning
- Excellent attendance record, punctuality, responsibility and reliability
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Proof of in-progress University or College Degree in a related field
- Relevant Portfolio

- Three (3) references, at least one (1) from a Direct Supervisor.

Compensation is based upon experience, education, and professional credentials.
