Full job description

Overview

This position performs essential manual tasks, including tending to poultry and operating machinery. Work may be outdoors or inside barns. This is a physically demanding role that may require heavy lifting and long hours. This posting is for an existing vacancy.

Tasks

Handling and caring for poultry
Set and monitor water lines, air flow and temperature in barns, pens and chicken coops
Monitoring animal health; removing any trapped, sick or dead birds
Gathering eggs; packing and operating equipment
Running manure belts and adjusting litter depth when necessary
Monitoring and removing pests
Keeping the barn clean, which includes manure removal and blow down
Maintaining sick pens for injured birds
Disinfect pens, barns or poultry houses
Ensure farm safety and bio-security procedures are followed
Perform general farm maintenance on caging equipment, including installations when necessary
Maintain livestock performance records; write daily basic progress reports; keep logs and maintain records
Other duties i.e. equipment maintenance, general cleaning maintenance, loading and unloading trucks/trailers

Equipment and Machinery

Automated manure handling or storage system
Egg gathering system
Bulk grain or feed handling - automated
Automated environmental control equipment
Manure handling and storage

Skills and Experience Required

Education

Secondary (high) school graduation certificate

Experience

No education or experience required, however, 6-12 months of previous experience

On site

Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely. Jobs are available at Mapleton.
