About the opportunity:
The incumbent oversees maintenance activities in building services and process areas. This involves a wide range of complex equipment (microfiltration system, DASI, Unitherm processors, HTST processors, separators, homogenizers, glycol system, boilers, Ammonia compressors, and HVAC units), cooling towers/condensors. The position has overall responsibility for controlling and optimizing the maintenance budget for these areas as well as development of maintenance mechanics and stationary engineers supporting these areas. In addition to being responsible for supervising and coordinating the day-to-day building services activities at the plant facility including proactively conducting root cause analysis and correcting operating issues and employee activities, this position is responsible for ensuring a safe operation, key targets and results are achieved, and effective management of resources, as well as identifying and leading continuous improvement initiatives, and scheduling related services to help ensure production objectives are met.
The attributes we are looking for:
- Provide leadership and supervision to staff by providing work direction, performance feedback, and recommendations for training and development. Promote a positive labour-management relationship, including efforts to continuously improve the team culture and to establish high levels of employee involvement. Ensure compliance with the Company’s corporate and legal obligations under the Collective Agreement, as well as various statutes and regulations such as Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Promote a focus on excellence in all maintenance activities including those required to support optimal quality, yield and cost containment.
- Responsible for facility operations inclusive of: steam generation and distribution, steam condensate return system, ammonia refrigeration system, chilled water, glycol refrigeration and compressed air production and distribution. Primary contact for Technical Standards and Safety authority (Ontario pressure vessels regulator).
- Ensure compliance for pressure vessels and physical facility risk management for code pressure relief valves, ammonia, steam, air, fire protection equipment, facility wide inspections and repairs to pressure vessels (steam jacketed vessels, boilers, ammonia, and air.)
- Responsible for maintenance of the sterilizers, and processors listed above, City water distribution and sewer mains, and operation of the facility’s effluent treatment plant and coordination of effluent sampling for the Region within the province. Plan and execute building maintenance scheduling.
- Provide leadership in all energy conservation projects inclusive of: setting targets, collecting and analyzing data, and coordination with other departments.
- Monitor and ensure contractors adhere to facility procedures and achieve contractual requirements, including equipment installations, modifications and maintenance. Ensure that all relevant activities are conducted in compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, GMP requirements, and business standards
- Lead and support the Emergency Response Team, and provide administrative support on environmental issues and actions.
- Manage budget for controlling, monitoring and justifying expenditures versus plan.
- Develop capital projects, submit RFAs, purchase and install equipment, commission systems and optimize results in a timely fashion
- Develop business plans to resolve building and process maintenance - related issues and seek approvals to implement solution within time and budgetary constraints.
What you will bring:
- Chief Engineer (Class A Refrigeration Certificate or Class 2 Stationary Engineer) – Ontario Provincial TSSA Certified
- Five (5) to ten (10) years supervisory experience in a manufacturing facility
- Five (5) or ten (10) years’ experience with ammonia compressors
- Ability to comply with TSSA OE Regulations 219-01, Operating Engineers Regulations
- Ability to deal with regulatory agencies such as government inspectors, Fire department, ministry of Environment, insurance inspectors and TSSA
- Financial and budgetary skills
- Project management skills
- Leadership skills, strong analytical, problem solving and decision making
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Capacity for learning and mastering technology and mechanical challenges
- Proficient with standard office computer technology and software

Compensation:
As part of our commitment to fairness, trust, and transparency and our ambition to be an Employer of Choice, the base salary range for this position is $110, 500- $132,600+
- Please note: Along with a comprehensive Total Rewards package, your actual base salary will be fair, competitive, and be based on your skills, experience, and qualifications.
