The Opportunity
As a Senior Industrial Automation Programmer, you will architect, program, commission, and support industrial automation systems across multiple platforms and environments. You will work closely with engineering, operations, and field teams to deliver robust, maintainable, and future-ready automation solutions.
This role is hands-on by design. It is suited for someone who writes clean, structured code and is comfortable wiring panels, troubleshooting I/O, and commissioning systems on site.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, program, test, and commission PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems
(Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider, Phoenix Contact, Ignition, etc.)
- Develop structured, scalable and maintainable programs using various programming languages.
- Design, wire and troubleshoot control panels, field devices, PLC I/O, VFDs, servos, and safety circuits
- Perform on-site assessment, startup, and troubleshooting of industrial automation systems
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex electrical and controls issues
- Integrate full systems that may include robotics, motion control, 3rd party controllers and networking
- Interpret, review, and mark up electrical schematics and P&IDs
- Produce clear technical documentation, change logs, and version-controlled code repositories
- Support continuous improvement initiatives including data acquisition, OEE, and predictive maintenance
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal technical standards and training
Qualifications
- 3+ years of hands-on industrial automation experience
- Advanced proficiency with PLC programming using ladder logic, structured text, and function block
- Strong understanding of electrical theory
- Solid knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, EtherCAT, DeviceNet, etc
Technical Experience
- Strong ability with at least one PLC platform
- Strong ability with at least one SCADA/HMI platform
- Experience sizing, implementing and starting up VFDs
- Experience with motion control, electrical and/or hydraulic
- Experience with robotics considered an asset
- Familiarity with machine safety
- Familiarity with MES systems, historians, and data-driven automation
Additional Assets
- Knowledge of CSA and UL safety standards
- Exposure to IIoT, edge computing, or cloud-connected automation
Bilingual (English/French) for multi-site operations
