Position Title: Field Engineer
Rotation: 2 Weeks On / 2 Weeks Off
Employment Type: Full-Time, Project-Based
Reports To: Project Manager and Site Superintendent
Position Summary
Brook Construction is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineer to join our team. The Field Engineer will provide technical support to the Project Manager and Site Superintendent by coordinating field activities, verifying construction work, maintaining project documentation, and assisting with quality, scheduling, and safety initiatives.
This position plays a key role in ensuring construction activities are completed accurately, efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Field Operations
- Perform field layout, measurements, elevations, and verification of construction work.
- Verify work is completed in accordance with project drawings, specifications, tolerances, and contract requirements.
- Track installed quantities including excavation, concrete, reinforcing steel, and other construction materials.
- Support the Site Superintendent with construction sequencing and day-to-day field coordination.
- Assist in resolving field issues and identifying practical construction solutions.
- Monitor subcontractor progress and verify work is completed according to project requirements.
- Document site conditions through photographs, daily reports, field notes, and as-built documentation.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Assist Quality Control personnel with inspections and verification activities.
- Confirm materials delivered to site match approved submittals and project specifications.
- Verify installations meet engineering specifications, applicable codes, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).
- Track deficiencies and assist with corrective actions and close-out documentation.
- Coordinate construction testing activities including concrete testing, compaction testing, and other required quality inspections.
Documentation & Project Coordination
- Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) for Project Manager review.
- Assist with technical review of shop drawings and submittals.
- Maintain accurate as-built drawings and redline markups throughout construction.
- Update site sketches, drawings, and field documentation.
- Coordinate technical clarifications with engineers, consultants, and project stakeholders.
- Support procurement tracking and material status updates in coordination with the Project Coordinator.
Scheduling & Progress Monitoring
- Provide field information to assist the Superintendent with short-term look-ahead planning.
- Monitor productivity, installed quantities, and progress against the project schedule.
- Identify schedule impacts, field constraints, and potential delays, reporting findings to the Project Manager.
- Assist with project schedule updates and progress reporting, including Primavera P6 inputs where applicable.
Health, Safety & Environmental
- Participate in daily safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Identify and report workplace hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Ensure layout activities and temporary works comply with project safety requirements.
- Support the Superintendent in promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture.
- Follow all Brook Construction, client, and regulatory health, safety, and environmental requirements.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
- Previous experience in heavy civil, mining, industrial, or infrastructure construction is considered an asset.
- Experience with reinforced concrete construction, earthworks, and structural projects is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and surveying principles.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Primavera P6, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar construction software is an asset.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
- Must be able to meet all site access and pre-employment requirements, including drug and alcohol testing and any required medical assessments.
Working Conditions
- Two (2) weeks on / Two (2) weeks off rotational schedule.
- Camp accommodations and travel provided in accordance with company policy.
- Work performed in an active construction and mining environment.
- Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and lift materials or equipment as required.
