Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Production Designer supports Build Nova Scotia by producing clear, engaging visual content. Working as part of the Marketing and Communications team, this role focuses on visual storytelling through graphic design, video editing, photography, and drone-based imagery to explain Build Nova Scotia projects and programs.
The position collaborates with internal teams across Build Nova Scotia and produces visual materials that support communications led by the Marketing and Communications team for public, partner, and internal audiences.
What you'll do
Responsibilities
Visual Design and Production
Serve as the sole production designer for Build Nova Scotia, responsible for all visual design outputs across the organization.
Design and produce graphics, videos, photography, reports, presentations, internal documents, program materials, and signage.
Lead end‑to‑end production, from concept through final delivery, including editing, formatting, and version control.
Visual Storytelling, Accessibility, and Standards
Translate approved content and information into clear visual storytelling for public, partner, and internal audiences.
Ensure all visual materials meet corporate brand standards, plain‑language requirements, and accessibility standards.
Develop, maintain, and apply corporate visual design standards, templates, and signage guidelines.
Digital Publishing and Content Execution
Own day‑to‑day website updates, including publishing approved news releases, news stories, program updates, and visual content.
Create and publish visual assets for social media channels, limited to production and posting (no community management or strategy).
Maintain organized archives of digital and social media assets.
Video, Photography, and Drone Production
Capture and edit photography and video content for corporate, program, web, social, and internal communications.
Plan, shoot, edit, and deliver video content in multiple formats.
Operate drones for approved aerial photography and videography in compliance with Transport Canada regulations and organizational policies.
Internal Communications Production
Serve as the primary designer for all internal communications materials.
Compile, design, and format the bi‑weekly internal newsletter (the Digest) using approved inputs.
Design internal communication templates and layouts that support clarity, accessibility, and consistency.
Analytics, Monitoring, and Reporting Support
Produce reports based on media monitoring tools, social media platform analytics, and Google Analytics, following direction from the Marketing and Communications team.
Create clear visual summaries, charts, and formatted reports for internal use and briefings.
Collaboration and Workflow Management
Collaborate with Marketing and Communications staff and internal teams across Build Nova Scotia to support communications initiatives.
Manage visual asset libraries, production workflows, and timelines.
Coordinate with external vendors when specialized production support is required.
Perform other related duties as assigned within the Marketing and Communications team.
What you'll need
Qualifications
Required
Demonstrated intermediate graphic design skills
Intermediate proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Lightroom), sufficient to independently produce, edit, and deliver production‑quality visual materials.
Experience producing production‑quality visual content, including graphic design, video, and photography, from draft through final output.
Experience creating and formatting content for websites, social media, and internal communications, using approved messaging.
Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a Marketing and Communications team.
Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a high‑output environment. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and sound judgment.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Holds a valid Transport Canada drone licence or has the ability to obtain one within a reasonable timeframe.
Education
Post‑secondary education in any field is considered an asset. Demonstrated experience, skills, and a strong portfolio are the primary qualifications for this role.
Assets
Motion graphics or animation experience.
Experience working in government, Crown corporations, or the public sector.
Familiarity with accessibility standards and plain‑language principles in visual design.

Pay Grade: NSL-10
Salary Range: $2,443.99 - $3,239.02 Bi-Weekly
Salary Placement: The placement of a new hire into the salary range is based on an objective salary rating process. This process will assess the knowledge, skills and overall qualifications of a candidate along with internal equity to determine appropriate compensation placement. Each pay grade has established steps, and new hires cannot exceed certain maximums which are outlined in the Compensation Framework. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on these factors.
