The Opportunity
As Medavie continues to evolve and expand, we're looking for a Legal Counsel to join our growing Legal Services team. You'll play a key role in supporting strategic initiatives across the organization, advising on complex legal matters, and partnering with business leaders to help drive informed decision-making.
Working across a wide range of commercial, regulatory, and corporate issues, you'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while building your career in a collaborative, in-house legal environment.
What You'll Do
- Review, draft, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements with clients, vendors, service providers, and business partners.
- Provide legal advice and support on matters relating to commercial law, contracts, privacy, regulatory compliance, corporate governance, and risk management.
- Partner with leaders and stakeholders across the organization to support strategic business initiatives and operational priorities.
- Support real estate transactions, leasing arrangements, and other property-related matters.
- Identify legal risks and provide recommendations that align with business objectives.
- Collaborate with external counsel when specialized expertise is required.
- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and help ensure ongoing compliance.
- Contribute to legal projects, policy development, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Legal Services team.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.).
- Member in good standing with a Law Society in at least one Canadian province.
- 4-7 years of experience as a practicing lawyer.
- Experience working as in-house counsel.
- Strong experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial contracts.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong business acumen and the ability to provide sound legal guidance in a complex business environment.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Security Clearance Requirement: In conjunction with our contract with the Federal Government, you will be required to have Reliability Status Clearance (Enhanced Level B). This includes Fingerprinting, Criminal Record Check, Credit Check and you must have resided in Canada for at least 5 years and hold Permanent Resident or Citizenship Status.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting real estate transactions, leasing, or property-related matters.
- Experience in healthcare, insurance, employee benefits, or another highly regulated industry.
- Knowledge of privacy, regulatory, and compliance frameworks.
- Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.

Pay
