Independent Contractor Psychotherapist
RP, RSW or OT | Part-Time | Hybrid | Orangeville and Virtual Across Ontario
Strength Within Psychotherapy is seeking an experienced, independently practicing clinician to join the practice as an independent contractor for approximately 5–15 client hours per week. The successful candidate will provide virtual psychotherapy across Ontario and some in-person services in Orangeville, including Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™.
ABOUT THE PRACTICE
Strength Within Psychotherapy supports children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Alongside traditional psychotherapy, the practice offers Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™, an experiential approach that integrates psychotherapy with movement, exercise, strength-based activities, and embodied interventions. Sessions are tailored to each client’s therapeutic goals, abilities, comfort level, and clinical needs.
THE ROLE
Responsibilities may include:
- Providing individual psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults
- Providing couples counselling and parent or family support
- Offering virtual psychotherapy across Ontario
- Providing in-person Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™ sessions in Orangeville
- Integrating movement, somatic, embodied, or experiential interventions when clinically appropriate
- Completing timely and accurate clinical documentation
- Maintaining all ethical, privacy, professional, and regulatory standards
- Collaborating regarding referrals, client fit, risk concerns, and continuity of care
- Participating in monthly group practice consultation
Contractors retain independent clinical judgment and responsibility for the services they provide.
COMPENSATION AND SCHEDULE
- Independent contractor, fee-for-service position
- 60/40 fee split in favour of the contractor
- Approximately 5–15 client hours per week
- Flexible hybrid schedule
- Some in-person availability in Orangeville is required
- Caseload based on availability, referrals, clinical fit, and practice demand
- Opportunity to increase hours as the practice grows
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must:
- Be registered and in good standing as a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, a Registered Social Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, or an Occupational Therapist with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
- Hold a master’s-level degree in counselling psychology, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, psychotherapy, or a related discipline, with relevant graduate-level training in psychotherapy
- Be authorized and competent to provide psychotherapy independently within their professional scope, and have established experience providing psychotherapy independently
- Be responsible for obtaining any external clinical supervision or consultation they require
- Have experience or formal training in couples counselling
- Have formal training and experience with somatic, embodied, experiential, movement-based, or body-oriented psychotherapy
- Demonstrate knowledge of and experience with exercise, movement, strength training, fitness, rehabilitation, or another relevant form of physical activity
- Be comfortable integrating movement into psychotherapy safely, gradually, and within professional scope
- Carry appropriate professional liability insurance covering all services provided through the practice
- Hold current First Aid and CPR certification, or be willing to obtain it before beginning in-person services
- Demonstrate strong clinical judgment, professionalism, reliability, and communication
- Be available to provide in-person services in Orangeville, Ontario
This position is not suitable for RP (Qualifying) applicants.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
Experience in several of the following areas is preferred:
- Couples and relationship concerns
- Children and adolescents
- Neurodivergent clients, including clients with ADHD and autism
- First responders and military
- Frontline healthcare professionals
- Anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, burnout, and emotional regulation
- Parents and families
PRACTICE CONSULTATION
The successful clinician will participate in monthly group practice consultation focused on referrals, caseload needs, practice procedures, risk management, continuity of care, and the delivery of Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™. As the founder of Movement & Exercise Psychotherapy™, the practice owner and clinic director will provide orientation, consultation, and feedback regarding the model and its implementation. These meetings are intended for collaboration and practice consultation and do not constitute clinical supervision.
