Join One of Vancouver Island's Most Iconic Waterfront Restaurants

The Shady Rest Restaurant & Pub is looking for an experienced, hands-on Assistant Kitchen Manager to help lead our culinary team and maintain the high standards our guests have come to expect.

This is an ideal opportunity for a strong line cook, sous chef, or kitchen supervisor looking to take the next step into leadership. We are seeking someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes pride in food quality, and understands the importance of efficient service and team development.

What You'll Do

Lead and support the kitchen team during service
Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented to company standards
Monitor ticket times and kitchen flow to maintain efficient service
Assist in managing daily line operations and station organization
Train, coach, and develop kitchen staff
Maintain food quality, consistency, and portion control
Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation standards
Support scheduling and labour management initiatives
Help create a positive, professional, and accountable kitchen culture
Work closely with management to improve systems, efficiency, and guest satisfaction

What We're Looking For

2+ years of leadership experience in a restaurant kitchen
Strong understanding of line management and kitchen operations
Ability to lead by example in a fast-paced environment
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Commitment to food quality, consistency, and cleanliness
Experience with inventory control and food costing is considered an asset
Food Safe Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays
