Our client is seeking a motivated certified Water & Wastewater Plant Operator to join their operations facility team in the remote northern community of Moosonee, located near the southern shore of James Bay.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Water & Wastewater Plant Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining municipal water and wastewater systems to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant performance.
System Operations
- Operate, monitor, and maintain water and wastewater treatment systems, collection systems, and distribution systems.
- Adjust and evaluate treatment processes to optimize performance and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Monitor system performance using process control and automation systems (SCADA/PCS).
- Respond to alarms and operational changes to maintain system stability and efficiency.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Operate and inspect equipment such as:
- Pumps and motors
- Valves and gates
- Compressors and generators
- Chemical dosing equipment
- HVAC systems
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections including vibration monitoring and temperature checks.
- Maintain equipment using CLAIR principles (Clean, Lubricate, Adjust, Inspect, Repair).
Laboratory & Sampling
- Collect water and wastewater samples.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and analysis.
- Record and interpret laboratory results.
- Adjust treatment processes based on test results.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
- Identify changes in operational conditions and implement corrective actions.
- Troubleshoot system and process issues.
- Maintain accurate operational records and logbooks using digital or manual systems.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Work in accordance with environmental regulations and safety standards.
- Follow safe work practices including:
- Chemical handling
- Confined space entry
- Lockout/tagout procedures
- Proper use of personal protective equipment.
Qualifications:
Education & Licensing
- Valid MECP Water and Wastewater Operator Certificates (required per facility needs)
- Level 3 Water and Level 2 Wastewater licenses (minimum requirement)
- OIT will not be considered at this time
- Valid Class G Driver’s License
Assets
- Post-secondary education in:
- Environmental technology
- Water/wastewater operations
- Mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation trades
Knowledge & Skills
- Understanding of water treatment processes such as:
- Flocculation
- Clarification
- Filtration
- Disinfection
- pH adjustment
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and collection systems.
- Familiarity with water distribution systems including towers, booster stations, and hydrant maintenance.
- Ability to work with SCADA systems and automated process controls.
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
- Team-oriented with a commitment to continuous learning.
Work Schedule
- 40-hour work week
- Weekend and statutory holiday work as required
- Participation in a rotating on-call schedule
- Ability to respond to operational emergencies when needed
