Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency and Referral Hospital is the first emergency and specialty hospital located in beautiful Halifax, Nova Scotia. We have specialty departments in Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Surgery, Anesthesiology, Radiology, and Exotics.

Overview

Coastal Care Veterinary Emergency & Referral Hospital is looking for an experienced, collaborative and professional Registered Veterinary Technician with a passion for emergency medicine to join our ER team. This position requires a driven individual with attention to detail and who is a self- starter and able to work in a fast paced environment. The ideal candidate must be computer literate and have exceptional multi-tasking and time management skills. Critical thinking and problem- solving skills are crucial; you must be able to multitask, collaborate and communicate with co-workers efficiently, effectively and professionally.

Technical abilities and skills

Triage patients, assessing vitals to determine stable vs critical
Knowledge of common & emergent medications
The ability to work in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
The ability to deliver exceptional client & patient service
Placement and maintenance of intravenous catheters, central lines, nasogastric feeding tubes, urinary catheters
Calculate CRIs, fluid additives and drug doses
Knowledge of fluid pumps and fluid setup, including syringe pumps and CRI administration
Ability to perform radiographs and laboratory diagnostics (blood smears, cytology, etc)
Monitor patients before, during, and after procedures under sedation and general anesthesia
Complete treatment plans ordered for hospitalized patients
Filling and review prescriptions
Patient discharges and client communications

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

Graduate from a licensed Veterinary Technician program (required)
Completed the VTNE
In good standing or able to license with provincial licensing boards (NSVMA, EVTA)
Able to perform physically demanding work that requires lifting (up to 50 pounds) and constant motion
Ability to work a rotational schedule with days/night/swing shifts required
