Grades Personnel

Join our Team and gear up for an exciting career!

DeFord Contracting Inc. is looking for an experienced Grades Personnel for Civil Construction city projects in and around the Greater Edmonton Area. DeFord is a leading contractor in Edmonton, Alberta, specializing in municipal road projects, subdivision land development, parking lots, and other key infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities:

Set and verify grades using survey instruments such as lasers, levels, and GPS equipment.
Interpret construction drawings and site plans to establish proper elevations and slopes.
Work closely with equipment operators, site supervisors, and survey teams to maintain grade accuracy.
Monitor and adjust grades during excavation, backfilling, and paving processes.
Ensure proper drainage and slope requirements are met for various surfaces.
Communicate effectively with the project team to resolve grading issues.
Maintain a safe and organized work environment while adhering to company and industry safety standards.

Qualifications:

2+ years of experience in a Grades Person role, preferably in civil construction.
Proficiency in using grade-checking tools, including lasers, total stations, and GPS equipment.
Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and survey layouts.
Understanding of road construction and land development processes.
Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment and adapt to changing conditions.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
